No emissions is great but the no inspection? Scary to know the car coming head on could have cords showing on the tires and the front end is about to crumble at any second with one big bump.

Great for people that take care of their stuff. Not great for bums driving shitboxes risking everyone’s lives.

Can’t have it all I guess 😂

No emissions or safety here either for most, however the police do watch for junk and will refer you for a mandatory inspection(or removal from the road) if they see fit.

Anything over 6600lbs other than a farm vehicle or motorhome is subject to annual inspection.

You guys don't even want to know how bad it is here. We get trucks in the shop where the frames are rotted through and we don't have emissions or inspections. Not even vin checks or anything just pay for your title transfer and that's it. It's pretty laid back but it's kind of sketchy.
Ya know, the inspection thing is cool, I can dig getting cars that are dog tracking off the road.. but the emissions part of it can be very frustrating, specially for someone who doesn’t work on their own car..(vacuum lines over the gas tank, little switching thingies), lots of money being made by some piece of crap politician though.. it is really nice not to see smoking bombs puffing billows of filth into your eyeballs and lungs..( I put enough smoke into my lungs as is..!!!)..
Anyhow, I sure do love my California,( was born on a dairy farm in northern Ohio so I have milked cows, seen cows butchered and have eaten fresh churned butter after killing loads of mice in the barn..).. can take a spirited drive most any day of the year without freezing.. today, clear skies, slight breeze coming on shore, 78 degrees and clear mountain roads @ 7500 ft and.. I live at 1700 ft.. go Cali..!!

I honestly think they should at least do inspections here. I've seen rotten brake lines where people literally will just kink them closed with a vise grip. I'm not into any of that at all.

That’s funny.. I used to drive a dwarf car in Nevada on a dirt track and we would run with no right front brake so when you tapped the brake just before the corner the car would jump sideways, then on the gas and drift through the corner.. really slick on a track, not on the street.. I miss those days

I hate living here(I'm from here so I can talk as much shit as I want about it) but one of the things I do REALLY love about Florida, is no emissions or inspections. At most they'll get up and look at your VIN to make sure it matches, but usually that's when you first register the car. Every year after that you just pay online and get a sticker in the mail. Done. If its got bumper, working lights, and indicators it's a street car according to them.
Same thing here in Kansas. No "testing" only a VIN check when I bring in a car from out of state! Pay my yearly tag(s) $ and get a sticker for my plate in the mail. 👍

At least Virginia has inspections to where 2/32 brake pad and tire depth are the failing factors and people still complain. Anything above that passes for thickness. It’s like the most minuscule things to be somewhat safe for the driver and everyone else but it’s all about them in the end. Fake stickers, ball joints falling or have fallen out. Messed up tires. 💩 I’ve taken entire wheel and knuckle assemblies off before, together as one piece. They just don’t prosecute like they should so it never goes anywhere.

I used to live in MD and you only needed the car inspected when you registered it. Can't say I noticed any more accidents there than in VA specifically due to cars being unsafe. I'm not necessarily against annual inspections, but some shops really try to take advantage of people.

Example: Before getting rid of my wife's 2006 Camry 2 years ago, I took it to get inspected at a place I hadn't been to before. I figured it would be fine because I always check the car over first. They said I needed $3000 in work to pass. Told them to reject it. Looked at everything they said needed to be done, and the "damage" and "wear" cited were greatly exaggerated or nonexistent. Took it somewhere else I brought it to before and it passed with no issues.

Well not exactly working on it, but I hit ANOTHER deer in the Lancer. Was headed home after a late lunch with some buddies. I saw it come out and I knew I wasn't going to avoid it. I still jammed the brakes and pulled the car to the left to try to avoid it, but to no avail.

From the sound of the BANG! I thought it was worse. Luckily it looks like all I got was the headlight. I can't see any other damage. I guess I'll find out when I swap the headlight out. Already ordered a pair from eBay for like $110 shipped.

Thank goodness it didn't join you in the cabin!

It could have been worse. It could have been like my December 4, 2020 deer hit... literally a 1/4 mile from where I hit the one tonight.

I drove an hour, 1 way, most of my career. I LEARNED where they like to be, and they aren't dumb. They like to find a drive or such rather than a ditch when they cross a road. I was lucky so so many times but I always scanned back and forth from ditch to ditch, never really looking straight down the road just because here in KS, they are a dime a dozen, and there is ALWAYS more than 1. Glad you're OK, car minimally damaged.

Regarding inspections: Here in Texas we used to have yearly safety inspections. Certain counties also had emissions inspections, because the air quality in places like Dallas and Houston sucks. Our state legislature decided to do away with the safety inspections, which is scary for all the reason people cited above. I've seen some really sketchy stuff on the roads. But they didn't eliminate the fee for the safety inspections, they just turned it into an "administrative fee." So you're still paying that same money to the state but the state isn't doing anything to make sure cars on the road meet a bare minimum standard.

Yeah, they are everywhere here too. I have hit 7 live ones and 3 already dead ones over the years. I'm always scanning too. Especially in the area where I hit this one. It was just perfect timing and I had no chance of completely avoiding her. My nephew just hit one a few months back, ironically, on his way home after hunting. I joked with him and said "You couldn't get one with your bow, so you had to get it with your truck?

He also didn't have a chance to avoid it as it was right as he topped a hill. Apparently the truck behind him couldn't avoid it either, as well the brand new Civic behind it. He said when the Civic ran up on the deer it went completely airborne and looked like it was doing a Dukes of Hazard jump.

Did you keep the deer? :p
I turned around to see if she was laying anywhere and didn't see her. If she was severely injured, but still alive I wanted to at least put her out of her misery so she didn't suffer. Like I said though I couldn't see her.

Once the stomach fluid gets on meat, its done. I had to put one down, out here one day too. It's back was broke. AS SOON as I did the deed, a SHERIFF ROLLED UP
I didn't have a license or a deer tag but he was cool and gave me a salvage tag.

Here in California we don’t have inspections but we do have smog every other year.. I wouldn’t mind safety inspections here ☠️💀👽😵‍💫

Took another look at the car today. The fender is slightly bent around the headlight. Not a big deal. I planned on replacing both fenders anyway when I do a paint job, so it's just another reason to replace them.

I also swapped the trunk struts and the cabin air filter, so it got its love for now. New headlights should be here later this week so I will get them swapped then.

Not to change the subject, but, I just saw my car get up to 20.4 psi.. it’s a first..!!

Please, change the subject. LOL
Ok,I will.. LOL… anyhow the tires were just spinning through 2nd and a real nice chirp going into 3rd..!!! What a blast.. took a trip to the local Home Depot for some bailing wire to finish the chicken coop and guess what pulled up next to me.. yup, a corvette.. man was he looking cool. LOL but he didn’t think it was so that little gray car could stay right beside him.. what a blast..!!!!

Don't ya just LOVE IT? I did it with a 20g and water meth. Newish (2014, 9 years ago) Stingray just couldn't hang up to 150ish mph
Good Job Man!!! 💯👍

Believe it or not, the data doesn’t support the need for safety inspections anymore. Personally, I believe there’s been a shift in how mechanical deficiencies are considered as contributing factors in accidents. It’s something that has been lost over the years. There’s no money in safety. The money is in emissions and individual state compliance with 40USC Chapter I Part 51 Subchapter S, § 51.351 et. Seq. Individual states FHA money rides on this section of Code. No emission inspections, no 40 billion in Transportation money. There’s a whole business built around Enhanced I/M compliance that collects stupid money to maintain a data base that reports to the EPA. Insurance companies also benefit from no safety inspections anymore. Accidents occur and they raise rates. Win-win for everyone but us.

Every inspection station is different. We know that other inspectors don’t check much if at all because we see them after. So all we do is follow the book. It doesn’t matter who it is, what kind of car, etc. It’s just going to be the same general inspection everytime. I don’t care if the last guy or if has passed since 67’. If you have a complaint the number is on the site. (We do the inspections from other shops that have gripes so it’s kind of funny)
I’ve only seen 1 gripe from one lady like a decade ago because some hack working out of a storage unit said it should pass. It didn’t. They set up a time with the trooper because it’s run through them and no show.
They can always just get some other guy to adjust their morals to slap it or get a fake sticker.

Anyhoo, check out these pics.. one looked kinda funny when I pulled it out, a little large on the gap for sure.. I thought wow, never seen a plug get THAT much of a gap from regular burning. Then I took a closer look at it and whalah, no porcelain.. sweet, did a quick compression check and not too happy with what I saw.. ah well, so it goes
