I ordered a bunch of bushing from the dealer, but they dont fit. I want to order aftermarket ones instead. Where is a place where I can buy some and I know from someone on here that they will fit for sure.
Thanks,
Nick

And is this for the inside? And for the outside, like the part connecting to the tranny? I will take a picture today when I get to work of the bushings I need.

Those bushings are for the inside, where the shifter plate mounts to the body.

I think your looking for the ones that go in the cables connecting to the trans. If so, these would be what you need:

I think they would work with the 420a but I'm not completely sure. :idontknow:

OEM ones are like a rubber material, the steel ones will stiffen up your shifts.

As said before a lot of people use skateboard bearings which is cheaper, especially if you have some laying around.

I've done both of the bearings - underhood and shifter plate on my 1Gs and I can tell you they do make a difference in shifting. If you're thinking about getting the underhood bearings, just go to ebay and buy a pack of skateboard bearings and put 2 in each cable end. That is the cheapest route.

are all the skateboard bearings the same size? and if you put 2 bearings in each cable end, did you weld them together?

NAPA sells different sized bearings, just ID your shift cable and go into napa and tell them what size you need. And no you don't need to weld them together.

so i got my skateboard bearings, and now i cant get them in the end cables. am i gonna have to go to a shop and have them pressed in? if not, whats the easiest way to get them in?

Just use a little bit of grease and a big ass C-clamp. That's what I used and it worked fine. It's kind of awkward because of limited space in the engine bay. As for welding them together, you won't have to because of how the shifter brackets are designed and the tops are retained with a cotter pin.

If the shift cable changes planes (if it moves toward/away from the case when you select different gear pairs) it would be best to use a spherical bearing to minimize fatigue on the cable. Pegasus sells one for the steering shaft of racing karts for about $13 that is a standard 22mm OD, 8mm ID like skate bearings. The skate bearings work really well and really improve feel, but when I had a cable failure I took a look and it really seemed that the skate bearing put a lot of bending into the cable end that failed.

hey guys, thanks to the replies and info. i got the bearings in the end cables, replaced the shifter bushings under the console, and found that the bracket that holds the shifter cables that's bolted onto the tranny had no bolts in it. now there's absolutely NO play in it. it shifts like a dream now.

Already said but using the roller bearings is the best FREE mod out there. Besides the windo weld motor mounts 5 years running strong!
