Hey everyone, while my car is down for a new clutch I decided to replace the shifter bushings with better ones. But my problem is I can't get the damn things off!!! Any tricks to get them off? One is still in the cable linkage and one is stuck on the part connected to the trans. I think I might try heating them up a little, but I am always worried about an open flame in the engine bay. Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to push out the one on the cable end by hand. It might take a little elbow grease. The piece on the trans can be pulled off by grabbing onto it with a pair of vice grips. Its easier if the rubber has ripped and separated. Just grab onto it and break it loose by twisting it, continue to twist as you pull upwards off of the pin.

I used that one tool they just invented...oh yea a hammer.

If your putting in the rollerskate bearing bushings, put the bearings in the freezer and heat up the linkage hole. It'll drop right in. (Clean the hole up with some sandpaper first)

i used a screw driver, put it in the whole and bend it side ways till the rubber pops off.

i did the same. did any one break the weld on there bearings? i broke the welds on both will intalling them, i was disappointed. If i could do it over i would just have spent a couple bucks and bought the bearing myself. IMO not worth the money.
