so it rained down here in SD. i haven't had my car to long so i haven't had it when it rained. so i was driving on the highway and the engine was warm. i had to pass someone but when i got on the throttle a little bit it almost felt like i was spinning my tires. i let off the throttle and then just gave it normal gas and it felt like it was spinning tires more. (really bumpy feeling) i got off the highway right away and my car was idling horrible. and i could barely drive on the street. its almost as if it was misfiring or not firring on all cylinders. have any of you ever had this happen?
could water have cause this like maybe some in the intake, i don't know how it would get in there.
i checked my IC piping to see if for some reason it had slipped off but i couldn't see anything.
any help would be awsome.

When it "slips" does the rpm shoot up? could either be a clutch or one of your axles popped out of the trans axle, I have had that happen before. Possibly a busted cv? Idle could just be coincidental.
 
it doesn't rev up at all when it "slips" and the axle shouldn't have slipped out cause i had the front right ball joints replaced cause they blew out. i had a shop do it cause i couldn't get the car home.
the engine was running just fine when i left my house but when i got on the highway and had to pass that car thats when it started acting weird.
when i rev it up in neutral it also is really rough. like a knock type of feeling. really laggy as well
 
Not always, it can jump a tooth and still run. Pop the timeing belt cover off and check
 
I would check all inter cooler piping. It might not be blown apart, but there may be a loose clamp that when you are under boost it is letting the boost pressure out. Then check timing as suggested.
 
so i checked my IC piping upper and lower and everything is fine. there was some shaft play in my turbo but i am going to replace that anyways with a 14b. i just need a rebuild kit for the turbo first.
my check engine light just came on and I'm borrowing a friends logger to see what is cause it. i have a feeling it is my fuel pump that might be going out.
is it possible that the FPR is bad?
I'm almost sure its not the turbo that is causing the problem cause the misfiring happens when it isn't boosting as well as when it is. so I think I'm just not getting enough fuel.
any advice on how to check the fuel system? from the fuel pump all the way to the injectors
 
If it was really bad rain when it happened it could be that the car sucked some up. I had this happen on my 3g eclipse alot ### the intake was about 3 inches off the road. whenever it did it i would just pull over and let the car idle. it would eventually get rid of the water.

If this is what happened then just let your car idle and it will run it off. although if it sucked up to much it could hurt the internals.


Also if its an aftermarket intake check and see if the filter is wet. that can cause the problem to.
 
if it was just a little water in it then i would think that it would be out by now. unfortunatly its the only car in my family that is running so i had to take it to work and it never got better. almost got a little worse. which is why i assume the fuel pump. plusmy air to fuel guage is saying that i am running incredibly lean. like its not even showing on the guage. i dont know much about the electronics of an engine and i need the car to work or else i cant get to work. so any help would be amazing advise or anything
 
i didnt actually. i had a quarter tank left. i always fill it up at that point. i dont let it go under a 1/4 tank. but my dad has been driving it lately and he lets it go all the way past empty even though i tell him not to. it is now filled up cause i had to take it to work and its about 30 miles away and my dad works about 60 miles away. it sucks that i had to drive on it but i had absolutly no choice
 
I was just asking beacuse maybe you got some gas with water in it. just a thought but if you didn't then thats not it
 
my check engine light came on, so i got a datalogger from my brother in law (its a crappy $80 one from autozone) and i plugged it in. i got only one code p0301 which is misifre in cylinder one.
the logger im using is "actron pocketscan plus" i took it to my mechanic buddy and he thinks it might be the injectors. so he swapped cylinder 1 injector with cylinder 2 injector to see if it pulls a different code. i reset the computer and drove till the CEL came back on. (he said it would be perfectly ok to do that) and it came back on. i plugged my logger back in and the same code came on. im really confused and desperetly need help. could bad spark plugs possibly cause this? im running crappy E3 ones right now but im going to ordering some NGK coppers.
please any help. how do i check injectors if they are bad or clogged.

sorry i forgot to mention that the mechanic checked for vaccume leaks and there were none.
and all my IC pipes are on completely and i cant see any leaks. i have to find my leak tester again to check. could any IC leaks cause this problem?

I'd do a boost leak test. Check your fuses and plugs. My car did the same thing and it was that I forgot to plug in the harness for the Mass Air Flow sensor. And this other time my IC coupler popped off, same problem car ran like sh*t and I spent hours of going over everything and it was a simple problem.
 
ive actaully pulled all the plugs and they are white... so its proving its running lean.
i dont think its the timing cause it kinda surges. its not the same misfire all the time. its really random. but i will check it, cause that might be the problem
 
so a boost leak like a IC pipe not being connected completely can cause misfires?

Oh you have misfires? LOL, I didn't see that. Well it can be spark plug wires. It happened on my mom's van took it to the shop because it was throwing a code they said it was misfiring and to replace the wires. Fixed the problem and no CEL.
 
If all the plugs are showing lean then you have a fuel issue. Have you checked the fuel pressure? Try crimping the return line coming off the fpr and see if that helps. You also need to check your fuel filter.
 
so have you all ever had one of those moments where you just feel like you should give up on cars for good cause you feel so stupid?
yea that happend to me. it turns out it was just the spark plugs. they just went bad. i just seemed to jump to the most complicated things before doing the basics. now im running some nice NGK's
so this forum is resolved incase anyone else has the same problem they can look here.
