I want to fidn out more about them, there site has some info but not a whole lot. Its hard to see pics of them. I think we should get more info on DSMs in road racing from the past till now. If anyone has links and history to share lets see it, DSM road racing history is dying and info should be shared.

Since Greg shared some info on the red talon, I know there were others and seen adds in old car n drivers with racing DSMs in pics etc...

I think this is the greatest "time" for DSM road racing personally. The cars have become cheap enough to buy, tear apart, rebuild, and prep for racing that many people are starting to use them as track cars.

While RRE doesn't have anythign written on their site, the further you get into learning about road racing, the more you'll understand how valuable the pictures they have are. (I'm using them to figure out my roll cage right now)

The brief history that I know is the following:

Archer Bros, Early 90s. They are part of the reason that AWD Turbos didn't really have a class to race in once modified because they destroyed the competition with DSMs. They've since moved on to Vipers.

RRE with Robert Tallini (cool documents/race history stuff here http://www.roadraceengineering.com/rre/ especially under "race teams" )
Raced in Mexico, and with NASA. I'm sure you've read at least what is on RREs website about it.

If you look at Scott Grays website www.dsmporn.com you'll find some videos and other interesting road racing information.

Greg Collier, our local celebrity is, as far as I know, The 3rd person to actually campaign a DSM in a competitive racing field.

Many people do the occasional road race, and there may have been factory teams (other than the Archer Bros) that I am unaware of, But as far as I have been able to find out, Thats about it.

Thanks guy's, I'm glad you liked them. I found those several years back, and had to really search through my computer to find them, this time.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe, RRE's (Tallini) car came out of that group of IMSA cars. It was a 90, that they converted to a 92 front facia, if my memory is correct.

Yep. That's correct.

Bruno at bbracin.com also has a few of the 2g cars.

I have the #33 '93 Archer car and the person I bought it from has the '90 "Thrifty Rental" car that Bobby Archer raced.

There also was a Talon raced in the Firehawk series that was profiled in Grassroots Motorsports a few months back.

The Archers also go back much further than their 1g Talon days. They used to race the Jeep Commanche pickup truck in what I believe was kind of a spec class back then.

Good running with you today. Kind of neat to see a little piece of dsm history still being used as it was intended. Too bad the conditions were so friggin miserable, you may have gathered more mud from this autox than you have from the rally's.

its threads like these that makes me hate 56k. ill be spending all night looking through the pics listed above haha

I saw this Archer Brothers car at the 1995 Dallas Grand Prix. It was the first racing DSM I ever saw, and I fell in lust with them on the spot! ;)

I used to have pics of the race cars all over the web site until the insurance company stumbled across the web site one day and imediately canceled me. Then everyone wanted another $20k a year. So I had to tone the site down a bunch and dump everything in that folder.

We bought all the DSM race cars from Dave Wolin back in 94 and 95. Made some back into street cars, raced one @ Pikes Peak, Robert Garcia here built one into a rally car, one is the "Tallini" car which I actually campained for the first time my self last year and ended up third in the Mexican Border Series Championship dispite my driving :p

The Tallini car is the black car in this pic: http://www.davewolin.com/nelson.htm

Welcome to Dsmtuners Mike, it's nice to have somebody with your experience and level of knowledge around here.

That's an interesting picture Mike. I don't quite get how that was taken in 1990 but clearly those are 1Gb cars.

BTW, welcome.

Steve

Cars are often run for multiple seasons. They are usually cosmetically updated so that people see the current car for sale at the dealership racing.

I don't see anyplace where it says the photos were taken in 1990.

It says

Mike Rutherford, John Norris, Randy Pobst, Cindi Hahn

1st and 2nd in class - 1990

I have no idea if that means the picture was taken in 1990 or not, that's just what it says.
