A while back I had the motor from my project talon on the stand and decided to check the main and rod bearings just because. The motor had been sitting for a few years so I figured I would see if maybe they had become pitted. Anyways, they looked good so I put it back together following the manual. The thing that worries me is that when reinstalling the bearings I put plenty of lube on them, but not to the back side. However I did not clean the backs of the bearings or rods with any type of cleaner, just wiped them off well. At the time I didn't know it was so critical to have them completely free of oil. Should I go back in and thoroughly clean them or let it go? I would hate to start it up and have one spin, any expert opinions?

Well, guess I'll be pulling the pan and re-doing the bearings. I think it would probably be fine, I'm just concerned there is a little oil on the back sides of a few bearings. Better safe than sorry I suppose. I can go ahead and do the BSE now too, so I guess it will work out.

That is all you need to do is wipe the backs of the bearings dry, and the housing bore in the con rod.

NO LUBE goes between the con rod housing bore and the back of the bearing.
If any lube is used here it can lock the crank up and also mess with oil clearances between the bearing and crank.

LUBE is only used between the rod bearing face and the crank.
