Road Racing Dsm Check It Out

Well,

I just purchased the above car. My plan is to AutoX it the rest of the season, and next summer start racing road courses with it. It is very well put together, and scary fast. I really haven't had a chance to get on it. I need a seat for it first(I have one coming). The MOMO corse in it is way to small for me. I am new to the DSM community, but not imports or racing. I really hope to enjoy this car for a few years. I am still learning the car, whats in it etc. Not all the mods were listed on ebay, it has a few other goodies. The previous owner raced it in NASA superunlimited, with a few changes it will be SCCA legal also. If you have any questions about it just give me a shout.

You should get in touch with Greg Collier. He's sponsored by this forum and has won back-to-back SU championships for 05 and 04. I'm sure he'll be delighted to have a fellow DSM'er running in the SU series.

3 hours south of Yankton, SD is a great road track near Glenwood, IA. It's called Mid America Motorplex www.midamericamotorplex.com . It's a great beginner's track because it's extremely safe. But there's enough speed to make it fun and enough twisties to make it technical. We open lap race there a handful of times a year with Damian DeLa Huerte of www.findtheline.com. His events are I think $150 for the day. He typically has two run groups so you get a ton of time on the track. I believe his next event is Aug. 26th if you want to come down. Like I said the track is extremely safe and this is a relaxed event. So, you could get into road racing your car this year.

Congrats on the purchase! Nice to see someone actually picked up the car and plans to run it. Hopefully you'll stick around and keep us updated on your experiences.

I see Damian DeLa Huerte running SU with NASA and I wonder what is he driving.

3rd gen rx-7 with mostly road racing mods and only a handful of power mods. He's wicked fast though since he has tons of seat time, a very balanced and light car, and a lot of skill.

Welcome aboard... it's great to see another DSM out there. You'll have a ball :thumb:

A little info on the first day Autocrossing this car.

I got my new seat in, had to fab the upper seat mount on the cage, refabbed the bottom of the seat to meet the existing hard mounts... Sits higher than I would have hoped so I may be finding another seat in the future.

I ran decent, the car was a little understeer not bad though. I came from racing FWD so I felt at home. My times weren't great but givin I haven't drivin the car before I was happy.

On the last run of the first heat, I went to down shift and couldn't get it into gear. Found a gear by luck and a little grind. Made my way back to the pits. It would not disengage the clutch, my first thought was the sprung clutch didn't last long, thinking I broke a spring, or maybe I was leaking hydrolic fluid. After careful inspection I noticed the tranny came loose from the motor. So I was done for the day. Packed up... THe next day after cooling off a little 95+ degree heat, my father noticed a small crack formed around a bolt hole on the bell housing. So out comes the tranny, get the bell housing repaired or if its the same replace it with the one from my spare 90 GSX tranny.

Needless to say I am not sure if I will be making it to MAM in Aug.

I hope you don't have the same problem as me:
