[RESOLVED] weird oil pressure

Hope I am not wasting time as I can't seem to find what I am looking for.

Yesterday I am on a road trip and the oil pressure guage is reading just fine(stock one) and I go to pass a car when I notice as soon as I step on the gas the oil pressure starts dropping pressure according to the stock guage. I am like wow that is weird normally the pressure goes up when I get on the throttle. So we pull over and while at idle the pressure seems normal. Shut the car down let it cool off and check the oil. Oil level is fine. So I start back on the road trip making sure to keep a eye on the pressure guage.

So to make long day short I have pressure at idle and at cruise but soonas I even give it a little gas the oil pressure starts to drop. Has anyone had this experience before? I was thinking that the sending unit may be going out but am not sure.

The connector on the end of the wire or the wire itself going to the sending unit may be damaged. I have had this problem on many 1Gs. The insulation will start to fall off and it can ground out on about anything it touches.

It is also a possibly the sending unit can be going bad or crudded up(never been removed/cleaned) considering these cars are 15+ years old.

Mine was damaged to where everytime i hammered on it the connector would come off and i would show NO pressure. The stock guage is just an estimate, do you have a manual guage you can put in to verify that this is actually happening and not just a fluke from teh stock signal/guage.

Thanks for the input guys.

A few months ago I had to replace alot of the wiring for the exact reason above. It was all deterioated and missing some of the sheathing. It would ground out and show no oil pressure.

I think I am going to head down and buy a aftermarket electronic guage today. I am almost positive that it is a sending unit problem as when I was passing a car on the road I would have probably had motor problems if the guage was actually correct.
