I was looking in a magazine and they said that Pacesetter made a header for the turbo. Does anyone know about the quality or performance of the header?

Pacesetter is gonna crack. My friend's cracked twice on him before he went with the DNP :)

And CTP, please don't start with the whole debate again with the dnp. You gave some good advice just now so just stick with that. I gave advice too so let's just leave it at that. ok?

I think I'll go with it....50 bucks and it's already heat wrapped.....Just might jump start me to spend the wedding money and get back to workon the car...LOL thanks!!

Man if some one walked up with one and said I could have it. They would be taking it home!! They are a royal PAIN in the A$$ :notgood::notgood:

I'll give you this from experience. i just pulled the one i had and replaced it with a stock manifold.

problem 1. the bolts didn't line up properly and the flange on turbo side warped a bit
and wound up leaking.

2. had to use wrap on them because after my first run around town with them
on they were cherry red. kinda cool looking but to much heat under the hood.
the wrap helped to keep the heat in. mine hadn't cracked yet but used only
for 3-4 months. pretty sure it was getting close.

If you sincerely want tubular, spend the extra dough on a good set. The pacesetters are cheap and that's why i bought it. figured i'd give it a shot knowing i had a back up manifold. not completely impressed with it though. :notgood:

LOL the oem manifold is good into the 9's... not to mention, tubular manifolds FTL! run a ported 2g, or an evoIII mani.... much better performance and LONGER lasting... only benifits from the tubular manifolds are decreased spool times on large turbos, since your running an small 16g, its only going to be like 50 rpm max difference... as far as sound change, their will be almost none.... save your money for something worth buying!

I hear ya there. Even WITH the heatwrap my buddy's Pacesetter turned the silver paint on his valve cover BROWN hear the manifold.

That's WAYYYYY too much added heat under the hood.

I bought my 90 TSI AWD knowing I needed to replace the pacesetter header. Then driving home last week on the high way doing about 95mph, and poof.

Shes running just fine right now. You do get what you pay for. I gess that header was welded 4 times. When I saw the car had that thing on their, I knew that was something that had to get fixed right away.

Did you have it wrapped? Looks like you did. I've read that rust is a common problem on wrapped mild steel headers.

I have one, haven't run it yet, but a few things I saw were the thin flanges, tiny runner inlets, and awful collector. Feels like the tubes are thick enough, but that's just a guess. Oh, the support brace on there is a good idea if the collector just rusts out like that, keeps the turbo from falling off.

:confused:im currently building my 98 gsx...i happened to come across a local shop selling this pacesetter turbo manifold with mitsu flange brand new in box with gaskets and all ..but im not sure if its worth it or a good buy..never really heard much about these manifolds....i have like 125-150 dollars at the moment since im a little broke..but i have the fp 18g turbo sitting here but im lookin for a good manifold and o2 housing..any help?? on whats good and affordable?:dsm:

what about the sbr cast manifold??? heard good about those manifolds...also does the evo 3 o2 housing fit on that? last question...whats a good downpipe for a 18g turbo and im runnin the hks hi-power exhaust??

the o2 housing doesnt bolt on to the manifold, it bolts onto the turbo, and as long as you have a mitsubishi turbine housing the evo o2 will bolt to it. as far as down pipes go many people have been having success with the meagn down pipe and its reasonably priced.

The SBR mani seems to be hit & miss. Mine cracked after 6 months use & was pulled after 1 year because there were 6 or so cracks up to 3" long. I had their first version, which they redesigned (& supposed to not crack), though I have seen multiple ones of these crack in short times as well, but I also know of some that have stood up with no issues. I'm not sure if their still cast in the same place/using the same raw materials but I know I defently wouldn't take the chance again. I too would recommend to save up for the FP mani.
