i have a 97 talon non turbo, what is the benefit of changing the cam gears? and how would i go about doing it? does it need to be tuned after installation? thx guys.

Cam gears you don't need unless your engine is highly modded. Even then you wont need it if you have DSMLink or the AEM engine management system. On those you can adjust the timing. I dont know about the piggy back systems. I put cam gears on my engine only for looks. 350 bucks for AEM but they look great.

not needed at all, very minimal gain only if you use them correctly. Pretty much there for looks only to most people.

I concur with what everyone else has been saying. For the MOST part (not totally) cam gears just help with degree-ing in aftermarket cams and shifting the power band. Your money, your choice...

paint them blue

i heard from another site you will gain 4hp at the wheels.
i personally would like to know how. i do not think that you will see any gain. i built my head so i said wtf and threw the set of HK$ on there. to match my other purple stuff, but i did not anticipate nor recive a gain.

With a skilled person and a few dyno pulls an engine's torque curve can be moved up or down the RPM range by adjusting cam gears. See How to Tune Cam Gears on a 4g63t - My Pro Street.

Without the dyno tuning aftermarket cam gears are just bling that can slip out of adjustment and introduce your valves to the pistons. If you feel the need to show off the pretty cam gears then don't forget a clear cam cover.
