Any way to get longer gears in a 1g? Dont know if ill get any but i feel like when i get my car done i would want longer gear to go faster in top end

I know all the 4g63 people will cringe at this, but you could get the 420a. It has long gearing..
however you could never mate a 420a trans to a 4g63 in eclipse because the 4g63 cars have a transverse transmission where as the 420a cars do not.
Only the Evo 8, and up trannys sit on the same side as the 420a's tranny does... There are 2 reasons a longer geared setup are good for turboed cars (1.) is you hold boost longer in the gears (everyone pretty much knows this) and (2.) The longer gears allow you to make more power without grenading your tranny. Why?.. Because think of it like this. Think of your car as a 10 speed bike. Now in 1st gear on a bike it is really easy to get up to speed and you use alot more pressure on that smaller gear..Switch to the last gear and its effort less and climbing hills are a breeze with that bigger gear. (have you ever had your chain pop right off on first gear when you put too much load on it trying to go fast?..I have alot!.. Now try doing that on the last gear.. its impossible!.... This being said Yes, Your car will be slower with the longer gears n/a but throw on a turbo and it will take the abuse... That is why our cars can make 600hp on oem rebuilt trannys. I would definately get longer gearing for your 4g63 trannys!.. Especially a longer first gear, if it is possible. It's better all around!... Oh and you're sadly misinformed on mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions, the Evo IV-IX have different 4g63t 7 bolts whose engines are flipped. (only the head is really changed but the flipped the engine)

. And you don't have problems with torque steer when you have an AWD car which already has equal length half shafts. The OP asked about a 1g trans and you somehow managed to drag Evos and 420as into the convo. You obviously need your eyes checked Tikki.. No, tiki is correct. Once again you have no clue what you are talking about. The Evo 4-9 have the trans on that side, not just the 8-9. The engine in turbo DSM is mounted 180 from the engine in a 420a dsm or evo 4-9. For this reason, the only reasonable trans swap for a 4g63 DSM is early Evo transmissions. No, we shouldn't all go out and buy 420a DSMs just to have longer gears connected to a truly inferior engine. You think equal length half shafts is something only a 420a can do?. Why not just change the diff gears? Or is that not possible in these cars? I know it's the #1 upgrade in the mustang community because I've owned a few. Much easier than pulling a tranny apart, too.
The FACTS are that its not better!.. It just needs a little more work!.. I hate all these newbies that just buy a gsx and automatically think they are the @#!T, and talk crap. It's getting old man!
I can't because I am still considered a "newbie", or I would. They really need to make a newbie 420a and newbie 4g63 section.
Thats only cause they have a rear diff. We don't.. Well the gsx might.
