Combination locks are no longer safe

But once you make a good shim it should work, I just came across this video. I havent tried it yet.

This is sooo old. I saw this like 2 years ago in 2600 along with bumping pin and tumbler locks. And the shim only works once from what I've seen. And it's way harder than it looks.

So how's the future in 2600? Did we ever land on mars? j/k

Why would someone use a 'combination' lock to secure things?

Yeah people have been doing that forever. Not too fancy. However, I did learn how to crack those masterlocks and get the combo a while ago. It's not that practical because cutters or a shim is faster/easier. But it is kinda cool, and useful if you found a lock and don't know the combo.

The Master Combination Padlock was invented in 1906. Later that afternoon, the axiom that "A lock only stops an honest man" was proven yet again, when Horace Brassbends developed this "pick". Fortunately, Master Combinations tend to rust-up quickly enough that this seldom works if it's been exposed to the air for more than a week.
If you don't have hands enough to crack the combination on a Master, do not attempt self-abuse. You will maim yourself.

However, thish ish like tha mosht rakidal hax evor. That narrator is Oscar-bound. Er, Oschkar.

Helpful reminder: DSM does not stand for Disabling Security Mechanisms.

Expect this to be locked by this time tomorrow.

2600 is a website, most people would call it a hacking website but I think I would term it as a tinkering website, I've never really cared for it but the few times I've been there they didn't seem to encourage anything blackhat.

They also release a magazine. Oh and its called "2600: The hacking quarterly", so it's kinda about hacking :p. Just not in the common use of the term.
