Well If you must and you have the extra mula laying around i would. I havent had a problem with mine and I know of several people same thing. When i put my head on I used 1000 grit sand paper and wet sanded the blocka and the head. There is a thread here somewhare were i got the idea from. I haven had any issues. Before i bought my s256 I was running a red at 25psi no problems Ive been on this block for about 4 months now of running it hard.

Fellas here is a short video of my head gasket problem. I think something, maybe a piece of dirt got trapped between the layers of my head gasket at the time the engine was assemble because i have always, from day one of this new engine ,blew coolant into the overflow, and i think over time with the new turbo it became progressively worse. knotice cylinder #2 there is a spot that failed to seal between the cylinder and the water port. The good part is that the pistons show no sign of denation damage and the cylinder walls are as smooth as a baby's behind:thumb:. I have decided to shed out the cash for the Felpro MLS Perma-torque head gaket I have read very good reviews on this gasket and the best part is summitt racing is cheaper than all the dsm vendors that i have checked out. They have them for 177.00 and there is a summit warehouse about 40minutes from me. The car will be up and running again is about a week:cool:

What is this a video for the deaf mute? We need commentary LOL. J/k.

Honestly, just get a new hg, make sure the surfaces are good and put her back together. If after this you have more issues, then o-ring the head.

Oh and about that turbo, THAT'S A HUGE bi***!

Im now in the same boat as you.:(:( Its not that bad but i will be pulling the head soon and buying the same gasket. I think since the head is off oversized valves and springs and retainers are called for now.

This turbo is not your ordinary 50 trim:|. The turbo is responsible for a power level that really caught us off guard. When you pull the head post some pics of your damage. thank. I will be getting my gasket this week;)

i agree this turbo kick ass, I have 4 brand new tires with alot of tread and Im busting all 4 lose on the 2 step in 1st and 2nd. I will post some pics up of the damage. I dont think there is much damage, It take about 4 or 5 hard pulls before it starts to heat up and then i have to add about a half a gallon of water. Did a leakdown test yesterday and there is just a little bubbles when i pop the cap, but im sure its alot more when the car is under boost at 26psi ROFL I did a compression check as well 150psi across all 4. The leak down test shows that the rings and cylinders are good just damn coolant getting in there some how. Guess that head lifts pretty good of there underboost.

Hey guys yall think 264/264 hks cams is enough cam for a bw 256/58 (have not decided). I got the cams for free but might trade or sale and re buy for larger ones. But if there is no point I would like to keep em to save time and some money. Would that cam be enough to carry me to 8k for the bw turbo?
Also when does this turbo seem to fall off the rpm range? Stock motor, head. Will upgrade springs and retainers if have too.

whats up did you get that hg I stll dont know which one to buy, does that permatorque have seals around each passage. I cant recall but one time i saw a hg and it had a seal around each passage.

Will be picking it up this morning!! When i get it i will post some pics.:thumb:

If you still have stock intake manifold then 264s will be perfect. I run these in my current set-up. If you go with something bigger then i suggest SMIM to utilize upper rpm power. Just my $.02;)

I was told by another member that this is the gasket he is using after having similar problem to mine. He said that he pushed coolant with two different gasket until he got this one! his problem is very identicle to mine!

Fel Pro 1153-1 : JNZ Tuning

here is the thread!
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyl...ng-blown-hg-worse-pushing-coolant-issues.html

what do you guys think? should i give it a try?

Keltalon, are you saying it is project tsi who switched to a Fel Pro gasket? I looked through that thread and didn't see any mention of the Fel Pro gasket. Don't see it in his profile either.
I'll be interested in knowing if the Fel Pro needs perfect surfaces to seal and hold, or if it is more tolerant than that.

Gary

We took the red 1g to the track thursday night and it was lighting up the front tires (nitto 555r all around) out of the hole. Best was 11.5@125, pump + meth and 30 psi on the s256.

Yeah it was project tsi. I sent him a private message asking him did he ever fix his problem and he responded here is a cc of the private message he sent to me.

32 psi on standard arp studs daily!

Switch to a Felpro MLS and a set of ARP L19 studs and say bye bye to pushing coolant.

He is disappointed LOL, he wants 10s. But happy to run decent times and drive to the track and back with no issues, that's always a big concern when racing. The temp dipped down into the hi 60s that night so traction sucked!

vids:

MY evo vs. Matt's 1g on Vimeo s256 93gsx on pump + meth vs. evo 8 mr with gsc cams, flash and e85

MAtt smoking the crap out of his drag radials! vs chris's evo on Vimeo s256 93gsx on pump + meth vs. evo 9 with hta gt35r, cams, sheet metal intake mani etc on pump as well.

BONUS: Galant VR4 spinning tires and smoking ricer on Vimeo 91 galant vr4 on stock motor with hks cams, t3/t04e 57 trim from bullseye also on pump gas + meth.

All 4 cars are on stock bottom ends and pump gas and driven to and from the track....gotta love the 4g63 :) Actually, the hta 35r evo is that guy's daily driver, and the only car he owns. His best is an 11.1 and the car made 502awhp, all on pump.

We rolled down there DEEP, we had like 5 or 6 evos, the galant and the 1g. I didn't run my 98 tsi awd because my first gear syncro is shot and i honestly don't feel like breaking it :) So to avoid being pressured into running it, i just left it at home and drove my daily to the track (99 lexus gs 300).

Alright enough rambling...

That's interesting because at the end of that other thread it sounded like Dan and Andy had just installed a Mitsu MLS in that car. That was the June 5 post. It must not have worked. They must have switched to the Felpro MLS later. Is that what happened?
Wait a minute, he's using L19 studs? They're like about $300? Is that really necessary at 32 psi boost or is that way overkill? Wouldn't the Felpro with standard ARP's be plenty good for 32 psi?

No the mitsu did not work out for him! here is the other thread that he started:thumb: I think he used the L19 to add a little more insurance after having to chang the head gasket twice! I finally got mine fel pro, its on the car. now i am waiting on a stock replacement radiator which should be here monday. So the car will be back up and running monday or tuesday and maybe i can finally revisit the dyno!!!

keltalon, are you still going to use the "regular" ARP's then?
Thanks for the link to the other thread.
Jeez he still doesn't say a word about the Felpro in that other thread. Makes it sound like it's the end of the world, no solution. No wonder you had to pm him!
