[RESOLVED] BW s256 boost issues!

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

My friend/mechanic Drew who has his own local DSM shop,
he told me he ran the extended tip s258 on his built 1st gen gsx before,
and he said he was blowing his tires off in 1st and 2nd on race gas,
but he still ran a 11.3 at like 122 or something with it on pump gas which is awesome.
So I take it these BW turbo's hits nice hard and early, and is a fun street turbo ! Good stuff

problem fixed thanks to fellow dsmer;) stock rubber turbo intake pipe was the !@#$$% culprit. I am not going into a lot of detail but it would let the turbo bring in the air. now the turbo shines like it suppose to. so next i need to do some tuning. we cut to rubber section and put it closer to the turbo with a custom made pipe and the car seem 29lbs boost and drops to 25 by redline. so i just ordered the 4" pipe from FP. thanks again everybody who offered a suggestion:cool:

Please DO go into detail on this. It might be a personal interest but the information can help others.

I'm an anti-intake kind of guy so I'd love to know more about the circumstances if they can lead me to an answer to the questions "When do you NEED to upgrade your intake?"

I firmly believe there are next to no measurable gains from upgrading your intake pipe below the 300whp mark. This may depend on a few other factors etc and its only my opinion that has not been proven. Though I've yet to see it proven flat out wrong.
But clearly, there is a point where using a stock intake is of huge detriment.

Just pokin' for more info so I can eventually put the puzzle together.
Thanks.

Im sorry but I am going to have to call BS on this one unless the people he is racing are complete idiots. I have personally seen a z06 run at the track against a very fast evo and the evo still lost. I have also owned a 05 gsxr750 and I know that even my car will not beat a 750 as I have raced a friends 06 750 just to see how things worked out. Now I am sure I will be able to beat one after I finish my tune but as of now I am sitting at 24psi and it isn't happening.

Bad driver :coy:

Most ppl with stockish Z06's only run low 12s at the track from what Ive seen.
A good driver may pull a high 11... Therefore I wouldnt call B.S. since you dont know all the circumstances. Now, whether or not it had all the mods he said is questionable, but even then it doesnt mean anything either way without videos ;).

Just make sure the diameter of the pipe isnt smaller than the compressor inlet.
If the turbo inlet is 3inches then dont go smaller than 3in on the pipeing.

The stock rubber snorkle is ribbed and wouldnt yeiled the smoothes flow into the turbo, and also look at the very end of it, it actually reduces the size by maybe a 1/4 inch smaller than even a 16gs inlet... I didnt feel any gains switching to a hard pipe on my 16g setup, but the intake noise increased, and the harder i pushed my setup ( airflow ) the more pronounced any restrictions could be. Its one of those things to upgrade just for the sake of being skeptical towards its .... Well towards it "stockness"

Back on subject. OP have you gotten to dyno yet? I am very curious to see your results. I am scheduled to dyno on the 26th but we will be capping off my pulls around the 450 mark as I am on stock internals.

These runs were on a track?

Nevermind. Re-read your post...and deleted it. This is not the place to discuss street racing.

Hey guys lets try to at least keep this thread open until i can post the dyno results of this turbo:cool: thanks!!

i finally bought a turbonetic mbc. this boost controller is the worst mbc that i have ever own. very diffucult to get a specified boost amount. it just jumps all over the place. the worst part is i paid over 80.00 for it. so next upgrade will be a electronic boost controller.

I am just sitting here at the house waiting on ups to deliver my fp pipe. I have to be here to sign for it:cry: I tried to get them to leave it but with no sucess I can only schedule a pick up after the first delivery attemp:notgood: Oh well:rolleyes:

Your still internally gated?

I appologize, didn't mean to mess up the content of this thread. I will delet my previous post.

I hate it when shops send items with delivery signature required. I started having things shipped to me here at work for that very reason because the nearest ups delivery center is 25 miles on way and that equals about $10 in fuel for me to pick it up not to mention my time.

I will take a pic of my mbc which is a home made piece that costs under $10 to make and it has worked perfectly for over 3 years now. Maybe you can save the money and make your own like I did.

well after finally getting the fp pipe on i had an opportunity to run two logs. both of these logs are untuned @ 26psi. one log is using map setting in airflow after 2200hz and the other one is just the normal airflow. you might note that boost does not drop on one of these log which show that the s256 is very capable of holding high boost. both of these run are with pump gas 93octane. my gas light is on so this explain the knock on one of these runs as well. i only did the two pulls so i can post some info on the turbo we will tune it tommorrow and i will post the dyno numbers over the weekend!:thumb:

yeah the homemade ebay one that i had also worked well hate i lost the darn thing! until i get the electronic boost controller i order another one off ebay similar to my old one it should be here tomorrow.

Im in the same boat as you, the intake pipe I have now is only 3 inches and the inlet of the s256 is 4. i will have to order a fp intake pipe as well I have a reducer 3-4 so Im going to use that till next month then I will order the fp take before I get a tune as well.

Seems to be lagy from the link logs.. looks like it starts to make a lil boost in the late 4k range but you said you have done no tuning sooo. Who knows, a dyno chart would tell much more.

Whats up on the updates did you make it to the dyno??

i was on my way and got a call that we need to reschedule. he will be back monday. but i was able to do a little tuning using my wideband the car pull hard. we i go i will post the results.

well i finally got to the dyno!! very please with outcome. i laid down 419hp 368tq @ 28psi droping to 20 psi by redline and this is due to the fact i have no tuning what so ever and a ebay manual boost controller. dyno guy was very impressed considering this was done on untune motor. he said that with 30psi and some tuning to get my timing in the right area i could get around 450hp. i also mixed 4 gallon of c16 on top of my 4 gallons of pump gas. overall i am pleased but there are some things that i will be changing here in the near future before actually doing a full tune. i will be going with an external wastegate setup. and also an electronic boost controller. as well as water injection. here are the logs i will post the dyno sheet later.

Dyno graph looks good.

So that was on pump gas with c16 mixed in.
I wonder what you'd make on just straight pump gas and a decent tune.
I plan on getting the BW s256 extended tip in the future and hope for 420-430awhp pump gas.

Also your boost falling to 20 is cost you a LOT of power. Do you have boost leaks?
I got my 16g holding to redline longer than that, that BW should be capable of holding maybe 25psi at 7k. The external gate will certainly help you a lot, especially if you put a stiff spring combo, do you think your w.g. flapper is blowing open? And what kind of timing advance, AFR are you seeing now?
