[RESOLVED] BW s256 boost issues!

Dyno graph looks good.

So that was on pump gas with c16 mixed in.
I wonder what you'd make on just straight pump gas and a decent tune.
I plan on getting the BW s256 extended tip in the future and hope for 420-430awhp pump gas.

Also your boost falling to 20 is cost you a LOT of power. Do you have boost leaks?
I got my 16g holding to redline longer than that, that BW should be capable of holding maybe 25psi at 7k. The external gate will certainly help you a lot, especially if you put a stiff spring combo, do you think your w.g. flapper is blowing open? And what kind of timing advance, AFR are you seeing now?

no boost leaks. the manual boost controller is loosing it up top. before going to the dyno i pulled the acuator line and did a run and boost held solid at 30psi to redline the knock was crazy, so i put the controller back on. dyno guys says i had several restrictions that needs to be taken care of to really see the turbo shine like it should. o2 housing. external wastegate, intake manifold, electronic boost controller ect!

So wait did you make 419 on 21 psi and race gas like your profile says or was it 30psi? Cause 21 psi and 419 is very impressive for such low boost on a preety much bas ass 50 trim

I need to update profile. but peak hp occure at about 25psi. the turbo spiked to about 28psi and dropped down to 21psi so i really need external wastegate and tuning to really see what the turbo can do. but what impressed me is that the first run with no tuning boost adjustments or anything we laid down 419.

You need bigger cams and head work. Those 264 are keeping you car from having 500 hp and over 400 tq. Get some fp2x or fp3 or maybe even some 280's. Dont forget you will need new springs and retainers with that if you do.

The guy at the dyno was correct.
Though let me add, when you get the external gate, try to get a spring combo that brings your minimum w.g. pressure boost as close as possible to your set psi you desire to run it at.
(Or at least as close as you feel comfortable getting since you wont be able to drop boost lower than that .)

I recently did a ebay 38mm external gate and punishment recir o2housing on my e316g setup and I have both springs installed for more w.g. pressure and my minimum boost now is 20psi, and my desired boost is 24-25... I set the mbc up to 24psi and it held that 24psi of boost a good 600-700 rpms longer than it did with the internal gate setup, and ever since I installed cams, It used to drop to 20psi at 7k even if I cranked it all the way up to 25lbs, but now I didnt see it go any lower than 22-23ish at 7k; seriously...

I aggree. Some 272 sized cams with some cam gears to dial in the curve would make things get a bit more interesting.

so are those numbers before the car is tuned? You should have more torque than what the graph shows man.

Yes he was saying that pull was before any tuning or anything was done which sounds pretty good to me.

I got mine on last night holding boost to 8000k with tial 38mm I think im having the same problem that you had. I have a 3inch intake pipe but the turbo is 4 inches. I have the a reducer coupler on there now. Im going to home depot after work to fab up something out of pcv pipe for an intake. Untill next month i will buy an fp. The turbo is a bit laggy. On a 4th gear pull I will hit full boost a 4800k But when it hits it goes.

Yeah. We never even attempted to tune the car considering the fact that I need better supporting mods. The cost of turbo set me back a good penny so supporting mods will come in a couple of months. But I will say this the car pulls like a monster.

I have the 264,272 hks combo and at 21psi on pump gas with a Garrett 57 trim I'm putting out 413whp so I don't think the cams are the problem. I will agree tht he could use some headwork and bigger 1mm valves if he wants a nice lil increase in hp. His whole setup including tuning needs to be looked at b4 we make the assumption that his car could not produce 500hp with his current head and cam setup.

Here is the 419 dyno run. I tried to at least get it with my cell phone I didn't think it would turn out but its decent

Looks good. What gear was that 4th?
Your rpm acceleration in the video slowed down after 6500 just like your dyno graph suggests.

It was 3rd gear. I did one 4th gear pull made 400hp and 380tq

Hey fellas here is a little update on the bw s256! it was suggested to me by a fellow dsmer that i might have some problem with my turbo. He said that although my dyno numbers are impressive, it does not represent my setup and what the s256 is capable of, my response wasWTF! So we made a bet. he bet me that something is wrong and i bet him that he is full of you know what. His suggestion was that since my torque numbers was low that i might have a exhaust leak somewhere, so i started searching and found nothing even though it seems that i could hear something but was not for sure. so to make a long story short he came over and we pulled the turbo off true enough i had a blown turbo to manifold gasketOMG at this point i had nothing to say, the bet involved no money just bragging and reputation rights. so this could explain the very slow spool up as well as the upper rpm boost drop off. i will post pics of the gasket and the modifycation that we did to the turbo to prep it for external tial 38mm wastegate with recirculated punishment racing mild steel o2 housing. i recently installed a hks electronic boost contoller. here is something that i want to share concerning the 38mm flapper that comes on the internal gate, the flapper is 38mm the hole is about 32mm. so we drilled the flapper out and ported the hole to about 39mm in preparation for the tial 38mm external wastegate. so i will be going back to the dyno once everything is installed with no issues and this time we will be tuning this beast:thumb:

What gasket did you use? I bought the insall kit from bullseye. The gasket that came with the kit looks pretty thick and strong i find it hard to belive that blew. I have been running my s256 for 2 weeks and im loving it kept up with a c6 vette with cams and a few other bolt ons. This was done on the hwy at 26psi. My car is still not tuned yet. Just keydiver chip. Im ordering brakes in two weeks. DSM Brakes Suck!!!! After that i will be going for a tune.

An oem exhaust manifold gasket should do the job.

We went back out last night with the s256 1g i told you guys about earlier. This time, the boost was at 29-30 and the car is flying on pump 93+ meth. We ( i wa sriding shotty) went from a roll with a bolt on camaro ss (last year ss, 01 maybe?). From 40-140, we pulled about 4 cars on him. And then he (no passenger) went from a dig against a maxed out bpu 97 supra auto which runs low 11s and he pulled about 3 or 4 on that.

We are trying to stick it on the dyno this week to see what she puts down before heading back out to the track. Might actually be tonight.

the turbo did not come with any gaskets. i had the old cheap stock one:notgood: we also knotice that two bolts was broken in the bullseye housing so we had to drill and tap the holes.

Stock 6 bolt, arp headstuds, stock headgasket, fp2 cams, sheet metal intake mani, q45tb and of course 3inch exhaust, fmic and fuel. Oh yeah, he is running a t3 setup for the s256 and tuning with dsmlink. No dyno yesterday, maybe later this week. I posted a pic of the eninge bay earlier in this thread...

Keltalon, buy a new oem gasket. Everytime i swap turbos or pull the turbo off, i at least replace the gasket and alot of the times i also replace the bolts. Also, is your s256 setup a t3 or running off a dsm flanged mani?

gotcha!! no I am running off dsm flanged manifold. my punishment racing recirculating 02 housing came in today:) the tial 38mm wastegate ,upgraded steele manifold gasket, upgraded steele 02 gasket and arp turbo to manifold bolts will be here tommorrow.:thumb: she should be up and running thursday.

here are some pics of the turbo with the internal 38mm flapper removed. we pipe threaded where the old flapper was and installed 1/4 pipe plug. we also ported the heck out of the hold to ensure adequate bleed off for the tial wastegate.

Ive tried that plug set up before on one of my other turbos. It fell out after about 2 months of driving hard. It is betterr to use a bolt and feed it throught the turbine housing and then use a nut with a hat. Tighten the heak out of it. Works and has been working for me.

Thanks for the heads up on that.;)

Yeap! So man whats up going back to dyno? I want to go but not yet, still a few more things to work on getting. Im running just with keydiver right now with 1000pte and the 255 wally rewired. Car pulls hard I have it at 26 psi right now looking at the logger idcs are at 59% and no knock car is advancing to 18deg of timing and am seeing 11.0-11.2 afrs at wott. Im not sure what is putting down but its fun:sneaky:
