keltalon did you pop the cover off to see the wheel. Does your turbo have shaft play?

Yes I did pop the cover off. The turbo does have shaft play. Everything else seems to be fine! One thing I did notice before the turbo went out was that it had a little smoke in between shifts. I spoke to David, at bullseye last Thursday concerning the problem I was having with the turbo , he advised that i take it off immediately and send it back for inspection. I don't know if this matters or not but the oil supply line they sent with the install kit did not have the 90 degree end like the one advertised on various vendors website. So in order to run the line to the filter it probably at some point developed a kink in it and restricted the supply of oil in some kind of way:confused:. I took a pic of the line during install just in case i developed any problems later on and i am glad i did. 2nd thing i notice about the turbo, is that unlike the advertised pictures i was looking at on various vendors site my compressor housing did not have Switzer written on it, I don't know if this meant the turbo wasn't genuine or what. I do know this I was told at the time of purchase that the turbo comes with a "No hassle No question 12 month warranty" After speaking with David I am very confident that bullseye will take care of the problems.

My turbo didnt have shweitzer either. My turbo didnt have the 90 bend. I had to drill my manifold where they meet. cylinder 3 and 4 in between. I took out that part and ran a heat shield around the line

Well the turbo was sent back yesterday. It is suppose to arrive Thursday. This is my first time having to file a warranty claim on a turbo, its going to be very interesting to see what happens next. Some companies find reasons not to honor a warranty I hope bullseye doesn't fall in this category:| Matt keep me posted!

Mine was sent back aswell. Should arive thursday, I will keep you updated. You might aswell get yours upgraded while it there. I hope that they honor it as well. Funny thing is they have 2 s256 there on the same day that went bad wonder what they think about that. I will keep you updated as i find out info.

Well so far I am hanging in there with mine. I am feeding off the head with mine and it does NOT have the switzer stamped into the housing. I too feel a bit disapointed about this turbo with the fact that I never knew it was a bullseye assembled turbo. Yes bullseye assembles these turbo's. If I had of known bullseye had anything to do with the turbo I would of never purchased it in the first place.

On a side note though I have heard but not confirmed it yet but one of everyones favorite turbos has borg warner chra's inside of them and a garret housing. I will try to find out more and I just don't want to name the turbo and find out that I am wrong.

From what I understand the turbo's we are buying are bw insides just bullseye housings.

What I was refering to in my previous post is that there is a company using the bw chra in their custom turbos that you would not expect.

I copied this warranty information off one vendors site trying to ease my mind after spending 1200.00 for this turbo that something good is going to come out of all this mess:| here is the quote and trust me i have read it a hundred times and i continue to read just to make myself feel good! LOL

"12 month "No Hassle" Warranty

This is a 12 month / Unlimited Mileage "No Hassle" Warranty. It is available on any of our complete turbos and must be purchased along with your new turbocharger (no exceptions). This warranty will provide you with a replacement cartridge and housing(s), if necessary, with no questions asked. This is not a "Rebuild" or "Remanufacture". Forget all the lengthy "Warranty Disclaimers". Just simply send back your smoking, locked up, "oops" I must have done something wrong or otherwise non-working turbo and receive a replacement at no additional charge (shipping charges not included). After replacement of covered turbocharger, warranty is voided. A new 12 month contract may be purchased at this time. Normal shaft play that has not caused either wheel to contact the housing does not apply. Prices starting at $79.00"

:boring:

Good question Im on bullseye web site and it does not say anything about warranty. The only thing i have found is a request of claim form that needs to be sent with the turbo. I ordered my turbo through a vendor. He said there is a 12 month warrant do to faliure of the turbo or components related to turbo not because of human error.

I tell you what keltalon Im going to be pissed off it my turbo is not covered. By the way after thinking about your feed line. I think if your turbo was going to mess up it would have a long time ago. Those bearings spin so fast that it would have taking a shit on you the first week. I dont think your feed line was the culprit in your case. Like I said I had to take a die grinder to my exhaust mani and take some out of the middle were cylinder 3 and 4 meed then I feed the line through there I put a heat shield sleve over the line then connected it to the turbo.

Yes bullseye assembles these turbo's.

droppinbottom, does Bullseye assemble the CHRA? Who told you this, was it somebody at Bullseye or who? I don't mean that assembled by bullseye is necessarily bad, but I would prefer assembled by BW.

I tell you what keltalon Im going to be pissed off if my turbo is not covered.

I would be very surprised if they didn't cover you guys on those turbos. It's bad for them that they put out some bad turbos, it would be even worse for them if they got a rep for not replacing them.
Also, I don't know about the $79 thing, but the "no hassle no questions" type of warranty for 1 year is exactly what Turbonetics offers and everybody says they honor it just fine. And they don't charge for it. That's just their standard warranty. So it's not too good to be true. It's just what some companies do to stimulate sales.

By the way, I think I can tell you one dealer who won't be selling any Bullseye assembled Borg Warners and that is Full-Race. They won't have the big selection of turbine housings though, and they will be emphasizing twin-scroll housings with not much for single scroll housings. And there won't be any DSM housings. So it might not do us much good unless you want to go twin scroll.

I think it will turn out that Bullseye just did a bad batch of turbos and they will do the warranty thing right and everything will be just fine. Nobody's perfect. When I first got interested in these turbos it was partly because I was seeing a lot of posts by people complaining that their brand new Turbonetics or Garrett ball bearing turbos started blowing smoke out the exhaust on day one. Seals were going out.

I'm about to put in a s258.

but now I'm waiting patiently....

Do you mean you haven't ordered it yet?

Looking into track time at pacific should be open soon. Never done it before but I love spirited drives

Hey, what club do you think you would join to do track days there?

Gary

From what I understand and if someone knows more than me feel free to chime in or correct me, The insides of the turbo are bw but the compressor and exhaust housing is bullseye which could explain why there is nothing stamped on the compressor housing. I hope to find out a bit more soon.

So far my only complaint with the turbo itself is the boost response after the shift. That could be part my car though 7.8:1 Either way though I see full boost 26psi @5300

Just wondering who you ordered through and is the warranty through the vendor or the manufacture?

I purchased mind directly from bullseye infact david the owner is the one who processed the order. I think that the 79.00 would apply after the warranty was used once in a 12 month periode. Matt i think yours will definintely be replaced because your wheel made contact with the housing. Mine just started smoking, loss of boost but no contact with the housing. What i am thinking is they may send mine back, tell me to put it back on and run it until the wheel makes contact and then send it in for exchange under warranty just my guess after reading the warranty information over and over. I am just going to have to wait and see. I do know this from what I was told at the time of purchase, all of their turbos comes with this warranty and is included in the purchase price! I really hate this has happen because the turbo really kick @$$!!

No, they have a responsibility to take care of the situation BEFORE it gets to the point where you have the wheel and housing rubbing. Think about this - the turbo is after the air filter. When the wheel and housing are rubbing you've got aluminum dust as a result - going right into your engine. Not good. Even if the only thing wrong with the turbo is bad seals that is still failure and they need to take care of it. Loss of boost I suppose could be from seals dragging or bearings dragging or both. They just need to send you a new turbo that is properly put together. And they need to figure out where this problem originates so they can fix it and start building good turbos again.

Update!!

David at bullseye call me today. They are taking care of the problem no questions asked. He suggested that since my exhaust housing had a coulple of broken bolts in it, that i replace the housing with a new one that is designed for external wastegate. the one i had was set up for internal wastegate which i converted to external not the best way to do it. so i paid for this upgrade. He informed me that my turbo possibly failed due to execessive heat, because the turbine shaft was purple. This i think happened when my car was ran hot due to the head gasket failure! The turbo will be ready tomorrow:thumb:

Thats great I havent recived a call yet hopefully tommrow. HMMMMM Im not sure but since Ive owned dsms I have ran my car so hot that I have warped my head. I have never had a turbo fail cause of heat. Then this is the first turbo I have owned that wasnt water cooled. I had to cut my hood and by a hood vent from carbontrix. To get rid of some heat. These bw run hot. You do have a turbo timer right?
