Replaced rear seats with RX7 storage bins [Merged 6-7] rear seat delete

I haven't had the funds to put a system in yet. I took out the seatbelt receivers and just covered the whole deal. It calms down that fuel pump whine too. I wish I could do something about the gray plastic of the hatch, I want it black - but I haven't come up with a durable solution yet.

I ust recently sprayed mine with a rubberized truck bedliner...I'll let you know if it holds up.

How does it look? I think its duplicolor that has some new paint designed to stick to plastic, but I doubt it won't scratch easily. Most everything else is either painted white, covered in white leather or black carpet. The plan is to get black Sparco seats someday.

I think it looks fine, the factory texture still shows through just fine, and honestly the bedliner texture is minimal. I wouldn't use it on somehting like a dash or the vinyl portion of a door panel, but for high wear items like door sills it seems to be holding up nicely. It takes forever to cure, can says 24 hours...I'd give it 48, even though it "dries" in minutes. I'll take a picture of the hatch panels i did to show you. I'm still waiting to see how it is going to hold up in the long run though.

As promised, Pics are big, but within regs.
The back piece looks washed out because of the flash, but in reality it's the same black as the other pic.

How many coats of the truck bed spray did you use?? That looks really nice :thumb:
Thank you!

Each piece took about 2 full coats and then I just touched them up in any places that weren't quite covered fully. I think it was about 1.5 cans (of the larger size) to do the entire hatch area.

Did you need to spary on any kind of clear coat??? Do you know how it is for fading?? I would guess something like that wouldn't fade that easily :thumb:

No I didn't use a clear coat, I figured if it can hold up in a truck bed it should hold up in my hatch without it. As far as fading, I wouldn't think so, but it's not like the car ahs seen the sun more than twice since I did it. The bloody rain around here is killing me.

I have to get my hands on a digital camera to show you my rear seat elimination. It actually came out pretty nice and is very very light.

Hell any pics of his car would be appreciated. I fell in love with that car on talk.

Unfortunately right around the time i posted last I broke up with my gf and she took the bling bling digital camera with her. I' have to try and borrow one from someone. I will try though fellas.

go get that back from her. if i ever broke up with my gf id make sure to get all of my stuff back.

Finally borrowed a friend's digital camera. It is crappy but better than nothing for getting a pic up on here.

The two pieces were made out of 3/4" insulation styrofoam. Pretty sturdy stuff. I made a template out of the rear area in cardboard and then transferred that over to the foam.
After a few trial fit and trims it fits perfect matching the contour of the panels on the sides. Then I just wrapped it with automotive carpet from Pep Boys.

Going back to fast and the furios........ Does anybody sell floorplates that are diamond plate? I want my front area to be all diamond plate,
-Ben

Dont use real diamond plate, its heavy as hell. You can get Aluminum Diamondplate that has much less weight to it.
Hop through the Sponsors Section and you can find some, i actually was just looking into them myself but i forget where i was looking OMG

Mach V makes diamond plate Aluminum Floor mats for 95-99 DSMs, they sell for $179 on their website. www.machv.com I haven't found them for 1G DSMs yet :(

Worst case, i suppose one could get them custom cut from a local welder or metal shop. Shouldnt be to much.
