Yeah, being 6'6" I cherish all the space there is. Before I figure out what to do with the back area I want to find a way to make my front seat rails go further back so I can have some leg room. Then I'll do stuff like the box or fiberglass.

I don't know how to fiberglass either, I hope we can all find this box thing and then match carpet behind it and then get rid of our spare hills/valleys.

I know this has nothing to do with this forum, but can someone tell my why the hell my sig pic randomly decides to show up? I used to pride myself in being quite computer literate, now I guess I'm retarded.

Yeah, I just found out that I am about as intelligent as a monkey doing a math problem here. Thanks for not ripping me a new one guys. So, back seat bins.....?

I just did a search and didn't come up with much, but it was kinda half-assed...

I had to take my back seat out so I could have a place to mount my racing harnesses. Plus there's not enough room to fit anyone back there anymore anyways. I am creating a level false floor out of aluminum. It will almost be has high as the center consol. I'm gonna wrap it in carpet also. It won't really be much of a weight saving if any, but I'm not worried about it.

I wanted to know if anyone has removed their rear seats from their 1g DSM. If so, how did it go? I'd like to see some pics if anyone has them too. I'm getting ready to make my whole interior black and I wanted to remove the back seats and carpet everything behind the front seats. Thanks everyone!
:thumb:

you wan't to remove it permanantly? why?

I am also wanting to do this, ill tke this question/\

Well first of all no one can sit back there cause theres no room, also its an awesome weight reduction

Ok...Supergoat...is the area underneath the seats already carpeted like that, or did you do that yourself after they were removed? Looks good. As for "why" I want to do this...MyEclipse5 is exactly right. The back seats are horrible for anyone to be riding in and they're nothing but a huge addition to weight. They're not necessary in a car I want to go fast and look good. It's not a family automobile! :p

There is no carpet under the back seat...right on the car floor! If you remove the back seat you are gonna have to put some carpet to hide the car floor.

I have my interior gutted as i am painting the entire thing and customizing some stuff. As stated before the rear seats pop right out in a matter of a couple minutes. Also it is correct that there is no carpeting so you'll have to find a local carpeting store to do something about padding/carpet if you want it to turn out decent. As far as weight reduction........what weight reduction? I remember seeing abuge list of parts on DSM's and what their weight were. The back seats weight is under 20lbs due to the fact that their construction is almost all foam. If you are that worried about weight reduction you better not have your school bag in your car because it weighs more than your seats.

Exactly the rear seats weight almost nothing. If you want to dump some weight loose the wiper motor seat belts and brackets. pull the front bumper..ect.

The hood weighs a ton so does the stock intake manifold. I don't suggest replacing the intake manifold for weight savings. But it is quite heavy compared to a 5lb sheet metal intake:p

I took mine out just because no one would want to sit back there and when someone did they hated it. Also because they were not in the best condition.

The rear seats WEIGH NOTHING. I took mine out for awhile so I could fit my bike back there better. Since I saw what SuperGoat did. I like that alot. Once I get off my lazy ass and start doing some work maybe Ill consider it. But for now Im tired and lazy. I work way too damm much.:(

I will say that yea I removed them for weight purposes, but now that they are out I like it SO much better.

I have tons more storage space, I never realized how much room the seats took up. Plus when the back seats were in stuff would fly off them when I braked, now everything stays put. Not sure why but it does. I really like the way the cars is without the seats so they will not be going back in. :)

I want to throw my backseat in the trash....

What do i need to keep the car looking good on the inside? Like is there as carpet kit that will go over the spot or what?

Also note i am completly redoing my interior with a black headliner and black carpet.
