Replaced rear seats with RX7 storage bins [Merged 6-7] rear seat delete

Depending on your taste I would say you could do a custom fiberglass job. You know do a speaker encloser or No2 bottle mount. I personally would do just carpet and make it look clean. I too am interested in the Rhinoliner though, post pics.

I mean hey, depending on $$$$ and know-how, I'm up for whatever looks best and weighs the least. If I had the money and/or know-how I would certainly go with the fiberglass "insert" that would smooth out all those weird ribs and stuff then carpet it to match. Clean, custom, and factory look all in one.

I'll probably go and get estimates at Rhinoliners and a speaker shop for the fiberglass pan and go from there. I just did the spray paint so it looks decent.

The hump for the spare tire would be nice to get rid of.

I think I could theoretically torch out that massive hump and weld a peice of sheetmetal in its place. That area is kind of useless without being level. Just my $.02

yea im going to get rid of that hump too, i was thinking maybe i could invert it, but after i saw how close the fuel tank is I dont think that will work. So i am going to make it all flat.


I want as clean of a factory look as i can get. I want it to look like it came a 2 seater...

Well then go with a flat carpet job. You can also look into a storage unit like in 2g RX-7s. It was discussed on here a while back.

I agree regardless of what I've done thus far and what I've proposed. I would simply like it to weigh nothing and look like a factory 2 seater....

I'm still in the "free mods" category and running out of them and trying to figure out how to actually buy stuff....damn denaro!

The storage bin idea is pretty cool. How it looks is its all flush but there are two or three compartments that have a hatch that lift up. Ill try and find some pictures on the net but if you have anymore questions about it please shoot. Also search the forums because I remember it was talked about before.

Cool, thanks for helping. I'm interested. Anyway, I'm cleaning my K&N (just to start) as we speak. Several hours of cleaning today. Possibly a heat sheild to isolate my custom RAM air thing, don't work tomorrow so I'm going to town...! Pix soon!

cool ideas guys, i my self got a 2g, and ill be removing my rear seats soon so i can run the racing harnesses back to the strut bar.

it would be nice to carpet the whole thing to the back, i have the oposite of the homp, but it would be nice to remove that spare tire vally, but i think it might be structural

I was thinking today, that I would like to get something make whether it be like this box thing someone talked about on page 1, or have something made from fiberglass to level everything out (the dip from where the backseat used to be) with the trunk area (after hump is gone). Then getting it carpeted. Who knows? You aren't a DSMer if you aren't constantly inventing new stuff even after you've installed it.

For a 2g, how about cutting the spare tire recess off the body and welding in a flat piece of steel or other metal to keep everything flat and reduce weight. And for seat replacement, maybe go with the rx7 storage bin idea along with some custom fiberglass work to keep everthing nice and flush and clean looking.

hmmm.. i might try the storage ben if i dont like the plane carpet (i suspect it will feel like it's to open.)

you know you get used to the snug fit in our cars and it seems wrong to have open space back there.. i think i will try to make the storage compartments out of fiber glass and make it all flush...

only crapy part is i have ZERO experiance with fiberglass and i would think to make a durable pice it would take a good many layers...and thats not some small pice to make..
