Rebuliding my 99 gsx

So i blew my engine in my 99 gsx, rod went through the block. The guy who is going to work on it said i should just use 1g rods and 2g pistons, shouldnt i use like je pistons or something(performance), he said the 1g/2g combo will hold up to 500hp??

I'm not sure that it will hold 500hp on stock 1g rods and 2g pistons but if there je pistons and some good after market rods it should be just fine i'm also ussing 1g rods and 2g pistons on a 6bolt that should go into my car by december..

I mean i had that combo now and my engine blew, and i dont want this to happen again, i mean i am know the 6 bolt will be better then the 7 bolt.

1G rods and 2g pistons are commonly used by people on a tight budget. It's definitely a good performing combo, but if you have the money, proven aftermarket products like you mentioned will handle more.

I would say think of your goals in mind. Are you still going to be running 350 hp? If youre closer to stock Id stick with stock internals (2g/1g combo) but if youre looking for higher numbers than 400 or so, go forged internals.

Yes, i do want 400 hp+, what should i get that wont cost too much, like which pistons/rods should i get?

I would get that combination. Manley's are a bit stouter of a rod, for the same price.

So is that all i need or i need something else. And what about my crank? Or maybe something went wrong when the other stuff broke.
