What does it not cover?
Overheating and abuse?
So when your headstuds stretch from running too much boost he can say that it overheated + was likely abused.
I think you got the shaft.
Hes been a good friend of my dad since they were in high school. It's not just some random guy.
Not to be a dick, but take your shit from him before he does any of that nonsense. Anyone that tries to build a performance application engine using random pistons etc, isn't someone I would take my gear to. the engine oil isn't the best but its break in. I use valvoline 10-w40, cheap but good detergent properties etc for break in. The fact that he charged you 60 bucks for new bolts shows he doesn't know what the #### he is doing. Cause last time I bought studs they were 80 bucks or so. Also some key things that you need to find out when they are machining the parts are piston to wall clearances. I didn't see where the 700 hp was brought up. But from the parts listed that's not going to survive at 700hp. I built the shit out of my engine and I think I would fold a rod at that level (eagle rods). If your close to MAPerformance I would give them a call. I seem to have this crazy idea that I need to check out shops before I take a build there. And ask the good questions, like can you surface the deck to RA50 or better. That's the first question I ask, because the majority of shops can't. So that prevents you from running a MLS head gasket which is a critical part of running over 500hp, unless you have some sick need to change stock head gaskets all the time.
EDIT
Holy balls, a ####ing year and its not done? get the car back, take his ass to court if you need. it takes longer than 8 hours for a proper build. I average about a 30 hours for an engine (See my build thread for details), that's balancing pistons, rods, (i send cranks out for balance), CC head, measure oil clearances, measure / size piston ring gaps.
Point is, you need to know certain things about these engines. Like estimated boost, expected cyl psi, expected use ie street/ strip vs drag vs road race. I really don't thing your guy knows dick about any of it. Get your parts and money back, walk away. Get someone that can actually talk specs with you. Like why do you run 0.0035 thou piston to wall clearance on forged aluminum pistons, street / strip debate between 2618 vs. 4032 alloys. Unless its an a world war, nothing takes a year. A year on a complete car build is to long. It may be time to get your feet wet in the engine building world. Find a good machinist that knows his shit, has a decent shop, and good workers if he is not doing the work himself. One thing, just because someone has a 900hp 4 banger doesn't mean they know what they are doing. But in your case they would probably be better than your guy.
1mm HLAs rock! I am actually looking for setsHint, they work great with FP 4R/5R cams
My buddy and I were going to do my build (buddy graduated from technical school, was a mechanic at toyota, built his own 330whp civic si) but my dad wanted a guarantee warranty which is why he got his buddy, who is the mechanic doing my motor. I didn't pay for it to get fixed so I had no say. I will say though that he has built some badass vettes, trans ams and camaros that I have saw but I don't ever think he has built a turbo foreign car so ya, we will see how it runs.

Ryan, I can't wait to see your DSM on the road. I pray that you get your fu(king car back sometime soon. Sh1t school starts up in a month, so I would hope you don't need to get a ride with your mom to make it to class. You really should consider a lawsuit on that mother fu(ker. Your car has a bunch of rust on it that was not there before, I bet your perfect tan leather has split, and your paint can't look good. It has not been washed in over 1 and 1/2 years.
