Ok so next week im planning on going spending crazy for a stock 97 TSi. I want to take it easy at first and get a few things done in the engine before I move onto exhaust etc etc...

I was wondering, for my intake do I REALLY need an aftermarket intake pipe? Or should I be fine with either the K&N FIPK or ExtremePsi MAF Adapter/K&N Filter?
Also what should I expect from installing one of the above? What sounds/performance would I get from the intake pipe itself?

Also, I want to get the NGR Type S BOV but want to go with hard intercooler piping. How is the Greddy SMIC pipe kit? Its like $215 but its already flanged for a greddy bov, looks good, plus it shouldnt hurt? Its better flowing am I right?

I used the stock intake pipe until I upgraded turbo's which is probably when you should but otherwise dont worry about it. And just so you know Dejon Powerhouse sells intercooler piping ALOT cheaper than Greddy and its the same value if not better.

So all I would need is the Dejon Upper IC pipe? Your right it is a lot cheaper, I just looked past that pipe because I found it on a different site and they didnt have an option for a Greddy flange, when the actual DEJON site HAS that option...Ill go with that then for sure. That $100 saved will be for my boost gauge.

Is there an intake pipe that is recommended for a stock turbo? Either the whole intake kit, or just the pipe to go with the K&N filter.

BTW thanks for the quick replies! Im pretty new to the site here (not forums, just this site), and yes I know about the search button LOL. I havent gotten a chance to do much research though because the site is always down for some reason. Idk if its just me or what

I ran the FIPK with the stock intake pipe, only thing you really notice with the hard pipe is spool, throtle response, and a lot louder turbo noise. Lol

I agree with everything he said. If you buy the FIPK you can always buy a cheap pipe of ebay. It won't be a great size for an upgraded turbo, but it will be perfect for the t25 and won't cost much. ExtremePSI also sells a complete intake kit with pipe and filter for around $150 I think, which isn't bad. You can upgrade to a K&N for a little extra. I also agree that the Greddy intercooler pipes are overpriced and I would look elsewhere if I were you.

A Ebay intake pipe and the FIPK will def. have fitment issues as the FIPK is about 2 inches longer than your normal filter but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. I am running the FP intake pipe, they're pretty universal for most turbos(t25-20g, and most big turbos)depending on which intake to turbo coupler you purchase.

Just a example

I wanted the ExtremePsi Intake kit but its been on order for a while now. I might just take a ride up there when Im ready to buy stuff and see if they have it in. Its only like 20 minutes away from where I live plus id be getting the filter etc from them anyway so its not like im going out of my way.

Hows the fitment with the FP Intake pipe & FIPK? It looks like it fits pretty good.

You're probably right, but I think it's been done before, at least with a similar pipe. Anyway, to the op, if you don't mind spending a little more, go with the fp pipe dsmdeliveryboy named. It has a large enough diameter to support much bigger turbos if you want to upgrade in the future and you can get couplers to fit anything down to the stock turbo. With that pipe you'll probably never have to buy another one down the road.

Yeah I think ill just break down and go with the FP pipe, I might as well do it now while I have the money. Thanks for the help everyone.
