My tax return check will be here any day now:rocks: Im ready for a new turbo. Ive always wanted a 50trim ive heard good things about it and puts out good power.

Recently Ive read about the FP 20g and sounds like a bad ass turbo too, they just put up the new 50trim and they have a group buy on it, so again im very indecisive!!

Also does anyone use the SBR 50trim? Why is it a lot cheaper than the PTE?

Does anyone have dyno numbers on any of these turbos? Cons and Pros about either one?

Thanks

I have a G50. I recommend you don't get one unless it has the garrett cetner section. Mine has a turbonetics and it has been fine so far, but it has only been a few thousand miles. They were and might still be using kinetic center sections. If they are, stay away. I love the power it makes on no tune(actually less timing than stock tune to make sure it didn't knock) with pump gas. I will copy paste a PM that I sent in a minute if I still have it.

I can't find the PM so I will just make a couple of notes. If the user I sent the PM to sees this, you can post the PM.

-This turbo got full boost (24psi) at 3,700rpm when I got on it at 3,000rpm in third gear. This is verified by my map sensor.
-This was with a stock tune basically. The only thing done was, I pulled timing across the board a couple of degrees.
-Once I tune it, the spool will get even better.

-It was reading 50lb/min. But this is over estimated a few lb/min because of a boost leak I had and the gm maf not being calibrated.
-I am fairly confident I can get that lb/min once I tune it.

-The 70-90 time was 2.0x. This is on par with other dsmlink powered cars running 12.0 with a 1.7 60ft.
-This is still on an untuned car. But I have a good amount of weight taken out. It should be in the low 2,600 range without me in it.

-I plan on running 10's on this turbo with no spray.

How long ago did you get the G50? Does the center section go out on the SBR? The spool time isnt bad at all, I like it.

What are your goals? I would assume from turbo choices you're looking for somewhere between 400-450whp. The group buy on the "new" 50trim is enticing. Im not a huge fan of precision "quality" and "warranty". The bw s256/8 seem to perform very well at high boost as well as good spoolup. These turbos aren't cheap but have made some nice dyno's. Hx35 will be another good choice if youre on a budget and looking for similar results. Turbos are a tough choice

Yes Im looking in the 450hp range also I want to keep my tubular mani that have right now and the same oil lines and fittings thats another reason why I was looking at these turbos, yea turbos are a very hard decision I was hoping you guys could help me out!

If you want a 50-trim, do not buy a PTE or newer SBR "G" turbo.

I've had two close friends have horrible luck with two seperate PTE turbos lastyear- both wouldn't last more than a thousand miles even though they were perfectly balanced and getting plenty of oil. One was a SCM5027E, and the other a SCM6031E that was converted to a SC6031E with a T3 .82 a/r turbine housing.

Pat's 100% right about the newer G50's being made by Kinetic. I don't have any personal experience with one of these turbos failing, but a quick search of "Kinetic" on this site will reveal plenty of guys that do.

I actually have an older (rebuilt) G50 at my shop that has a Garrett center section, although it's set up for an external gate off the o2 housing (flapper removed).

I love 20G's- they're the most versatile 100% bolt on turbo using all the stock oil and coolant lines. If you cannot find a good deal on a 20G (they're out there ;)), definitely consider a Borg turbo or even an HX35.

Here is what I got off the SBR site>>

The 50 Trim is one of our favorite turbochargers. It's right at home in a TO4E compressor cover, our turbine housing makes it bolt right up to your 1G/2G/Evo III/ or SBR DSM manifolds. This turbo when tuned properly has already propelled several SBR customers into the 11's and does exceptionally well on pump gas!

A To4e compressor cover, 3" inlet, Garrett oil only center section, and an SBR Cast Mitsubishi style turbine housing that allows bolt in Garrett CHRA's, and thats the start of a great turbocharger!

Add in the boost happy Garrett 50 trim compressor wheel, and you have one hell of a pump gas turbo! This turbo is mated with the Garrett high flow T3 turbine wheel for a quick spool, and good top end power. We keep the basic turbo simple, to keep the cost to you down! This turbo is capable of over 400 HP with very good street manners.

Don't forget if your buying this turbo that your going to need an oil line kit and your probably going to want to pick up one of our custom return lines for the Garrett center sections.

Please remember that these are custom turbo's are sometimes on the shelf but because of popularity they may require a 7-10 Day Build Time from the date of ordering!

.... So this means that they come with the Garrett center housings right??

How clever they are with words.

Journal bearing turbos built by Turbonetics, Precision, Kinetic, and many others use Garrett style center housings....this doesn't mean they're built by Garrett. It means in most cases that Garrett oil line hardware will fit, and Garrett parts will service the housing....although the internal oil plumbing and durability of the casting itself isn't on-par with Garrett quality.

That was the most puzzling part about the two PTE turbos that failed repeatedly on customers of mine last summer....they're using center housings that mimick a Garrett, so why aren't they as durable? Was it that 34psi was just too much for the 6031E? It's a mystery.

Hmm.. yea it was pretty confusing. This is gonna be harder than i thought:cry:

Well i was checking out the BW s256 and seems like a very good turbo too, the cost for it is 1200 with internal wastegate and DSM hotside, theyre also running a special and theyll throw in the oil lines for free. I might just go with this one.

The vendor with the PTE 50trim seems kind of scared to tell anyone anything about the turbo or the warranty on it. It seems kind of shady to me.

Ok so I think I made up my mind on this one. I decided to go with the Bullseye 50 trim, its good for 500hp, looks bad ass, and has a great price. Especially with vendor giving 5% off, so total for lines, turbo and 272s about 1100 bucks. I think thats pretty good:hmm:
