Ask him how well it welded up. ;)

That's some nasty stuff that Mitsu used to cast those. It smokes and spatters while filling the area with a burnt coolant smell.

Sean, wait til you see the valve cover I'm doing right now. It dominates all (except for that sick ass fabricated one that was posted on the Link forums a while back). You're gonna want one. ;)

Lol I still have that sick ass one though. I do wanna see what your whipping up though :hellyeah:

He pressure check it for leaks and it was cool. I'm no sure what presure he checked it up to but Jb weld held on my 1rst 1g build when my radiator was leaking like a SIV by itself so I think that with a half descent weld job and some Jbweld to back it up I should be cool

The sick-ass one I was referring to is this one. Mine won't be fabricated, but it also won't be using a traditional oil cap, baffling, or crankcase evacuation.

I'll start a thread on it once it's finished. :)

Cool looking forward to seeing it as I'm not a HUGE fan of that on in the pictures. Give me a shaved valve cover with -10 fittings(In which ever location floats your boat) and I'm good.

Anyway I picked up the T-stat housing as promised and you can def tell that my aluminum welders are a littler better than the other guys(but you can't beat free so the others guys still win LOL)

Sean whats the status, where are you at with the project now?

Had to save up money for the rest of the shell and shipping but the shippers said it should be here by mon or tues. I have a line on a set of fd wheels and nitto 555's that I will be picking up sunday as my street setup and then once that's done and out the way I will change gears back to my engine and trans setup so I can finish her up and put her in the new shell :hellyeah:

This should be a very good week for the project :thumb:

Edit: By the way everyon keep in mind I had this shell shipped from Utah to NJ so shipping cost as much as my old shell did

Why exact did you switch the shell? The one you had listed for sale was extremely clean with a cage.

The new one has a more street friendly cage in it, it already has the chuete mounted and the cable ran along with the lever, and it still has an interior. All of which add up to a car that I can still reach my ET goal but have a car that I can also drive on the street without looking like a honda kid with one seat mounted to the floor and nothing else LOL.

Good luck with driving it on the street!!! I can't stand driving mine on the street LOL.. Its so noisy, chaddering clutch, and so on.. I beat the shit out of it at the track, other wise its parked!!! I love driving my 08 silverado 2500 HD as a DD, hell some times i like to hook up the trailer and haul my car around for fun LOL!!!
But nice Build :thumb: very interresting!!!

I see, by the way assuming you're running 16" FD RX7 wheels what options do you have for brakes? I can only think of the TCE brakes or maybe The Brake Man brakes.

Yeah I know it won't be a picnic driving on the street and don't get me wrong this won't be a DD more of a nice day sunny and off from work kind of street driving. I have a 05 liberty that I'm gonna trade in soon for either a CHevey AValanche or a a Trailblazer SS

I have not really looked into brakes but I have not seen any guys have trouble with running the big brake upgrade with FD wheels as long as you have the correct spacers which the set I'm picking up does.

Yeah your right , they are fun to toy around in and race at the drag strip, thats about it LOL

I don't know how it will be with a cage, as i am putting one in soon!!!

Question, where did you get those fittings that you welded to the tstat housing? I'm assuming this will need some type of ss rad hose?

Where did you get your setup as far as fittings and hoses? Looks pretty neat.

Slippi,

Just out of curiosity, how fast have you gone so far? Whats your best E.T.?

This car has never ran so I don't have a ET yet

Call up Jay @ Jay racing he's the man to deal with. You have to be careful too because the t-stat housing is aluminum but that pipe where your lower hose hooks up to is steel so you need a steel -16an fitting not a aluminum like you finf everyone selling.

I know you're car is not running yet. I want to know your best E.T. in prior builds/dsms.:thumb:

I don't have time slips and I"m not one to bench race but the fastest car I have owned to date was my gt14 1g that I used to have with dsmlink and if it's worth anything to you it would keep up with a locals high ten second TA. Again though no time slip so that's why my profile is blank

You can get them front sumit racing. I would recommend cutting the Tstat back a little before you weld up the fitting.

Thanks guys. So you're saying buy an aluminum fitting for the tsat and a steel one for the pipe.

Also what type of radiator hose are you planning on running? Does that come with female ends?

The black dudes with the f bodies from delaware, that would run around south philly?

Or Rob. Man those were the days

What up Sean? Looking good man. One thing though, you should have cut that tstat housing back as close to the cap as you could have. You'll probably have issues getting the hoses to not kink. I did the same thing, and fought the same probelms. I cut my housing back to where the square part is by the overflow nipple. I also had to mill the housing on an angle to make it point up more.

Philly guys from DE but I might have come across rob too unknowingly. They all look alike ROFL

Those were the days though:hellyeah:

Yeah I wooped all 3 of the Del guys with my big 16g on pump gas (black ta, red ta, and a silver ss camaro)...those guys were like mid to low 12s at best on a hell of a pass.

Rob had the older 3rd gen trans am with wheelie bars, lives by lawnside. That was a 10 sec car on motor, mid 9s on the bottle. We use to mess around and he would give me 5 cars, and I would try to outrun him. ROFL

Man do I miss those days.

Cant wait to see the whip come together!

I'm not mounting my rad in the stock location I'm going to put it in the opening of the front support not behind it if that makes any sense. Those ears that it sits on stock are getting cut and it will be bolted to the frame. That should give me enough room especialy using a 45* fitting at both the rad and the tstat.

That would explain why I would walk some of the guys and there was one or two that gave me the business all the time ROFL

I missed out on the group but for these but found a guy selling a set local so my engine internals are now complete. I will probably take them to the machine shop tomorrow because I have to one get my acl race bears fitted for the pin in the bottom and two these are 21mm wrist pin setup and my HD's are 22mm. No problem though. Cake work for my machinist :)

Enjoy

Yeah, I'm using a scirocco rad sitting on the core support also. It's gonna throw off the angle, trust me. I had to mill the back of mine to get it to line up decently. I actually have 2 of them I was tweaking and switching back and forth trying to get it perfect. I'm even using Pro-Lite hose and its a bi***. Just a heads up man. I know the little things like that can be a pain in the ass.

I hear ya. Well I'll just have to wait and see what it looks like and if I have to I'll adjust that neck. I didn't weld the fittings onto the rad yet(mainly because I haven't bought my rad yet LOL) so I might be able to have it welded to the rad on an angle facing toward the fander to help with the hose not kinking. I'm going with pro classic lines so they will have more give them SS too. Thanks for the heads up though :thumb:

Got my fx1 pro's in today :) The shell is SUPOSED to be here tomorrow but we'll see these shippers are killing me.
