I scored a nice set of 18x9.5 5Zigen wheels with 295/30/18 and 265/35/18 tires. I am not looking to keep these tires, I am thinking of getting some 255/35/18, but for now, I decided to try them on the car, mainly because I never actually seen 295s on DSMs (without a widebody kit).

Those are 98/99 rear control arms, so it gives me a bit more clearance. Those 295s clearing the control arm by ~.05", so this as little you can 295 wheels stick out as possible!

That's a lot of rubber... I'm not sure how you use your 2g but IIRC Andrew B. was blowing up power steering racks running that wide of a tire around a road course, so like you mentioned going to a 255 isn't a bad idea. Can't seem to find the thread about it but if I do I'll link it...

Your car looks great by the way, f*** fender flares I like it!

Also, not trying to state the obvious but you might want to check the rolling diameter of the tires since they're offset sizes. Wouldn't want to damage your drivetrain.

---- EDIT ----
Found it just in case you're interested, looks like it was on a 285. Gixxerdrew TA Build : Post #197

With street tires he's probably fine. If he isn't I know how to modify the pressure relief valve spring's preload so that the rack seals won't blow (just remove a shim from the valve, really easy, no need for Andrew's modification).

Nice!

I'll confess, I've always loved your car, but hated the chrome wheels. A welcomed improvement, IMO!

Is there a write up for that?

Edit:
Is this what you're talking about? Scroll down to flow control modification?

http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-rebuild-and-modify-a-power-steering-pump.345914/

I didn't write it up because I was the only one besides Andrew that needed it, and Andrew already solved his problem a different, albeit more costly, way. I also forgot to take pictures every time I took the PS pump apart :) The other guys with our size tires aren't even close to having their cars on track to this day, and I told them already I would walk them through the mod if they used the OEM pump.

No, that's not what I'm talking about. The pressure relief valve is found in this picture from that write-up, it's the thing in the bottom right that the large spring is sitting on:

While not obvious that little thing there disassembles with one end unscrewing revealing a ball/spring valve, shimmed with some really tiny silver circular washers. You just remove one, then reassemble making sure to use loc-tite on the end-cap (found this out the hard way at the track, almost caused me to wreck as I lost power steering).

YES! I compared them side by side and they were as close, as I could see! Literally, no difference, at all! That is why decided to try them out.

As for 285's, have seen many of those before, but never 295's!

Here's my setup, Motegi TrakLites 17x8, 40mm offset, 235/45 Toyo's

Yeah, yeah, I know, I have 4x4 stance. Still on stock suspension. 40+ year old back will do that to you, LOL!

*Edited to fix typo, add offset
