I remember that old HKS ad from Turbo Magazine and the "Tallon" from Autoweek. Funny stuff!

Here's another survivor, a super survivor actually, pretty sure I found it on Autotrader.com and if I remember corrctly they were asking $7,995. It's an A/T with 8844 original miles.....incredible if you ask me:

8800 original miles! That is nuts. My car has been stored for 15-16 years of its life and has more miles. Nice find.

Couple clippings for today.

1. Better pic of Kraft's car and your Pacific hood.
2. The Testarossa 1G kit
3. Old Turbonetics ad
4. Old Shepherd article-car was still managed by a HKS VPC

Another magazine clipping. This is a fairly common early 90's ad from Hennessey. Though the ads were like in every magazine back then I can honestly say I dont think I ever saw anyone running any of these Hennessey parts in their T/E/L

Hennessey-
Stainless Steel Exhaust ( for GSX)-20Hp gain
Stainless intercooler piping (for GSX)
Up to 310Hp packages available

Here is the press kit and initial media release info for the first Mitsu GSX

Some pictures that I received straight from Mitsu of the Eclipse Spyder speedster. I believe the car was actually constructed at the time by one of the tuner shops.

Awesome stuff. That Eclipse Speedster looks like it had old school DP Motorsports Carrera wheels on it. I do have a picture of the first spyder somewhere. It is still in the Mitsubishi North America Inventory. I will look and post it up.

I remember seeing that watercolor and the small article. I must have that magazine packed away. The watercolor is pretty awesome, love the rear valance and what appear to be about 19" wheels.

Another scan for today.

Phil, Yup it has appeared in a few articles. Here is one of those articles from 1987 issue of Popular Science.

Cool to see them say the car was getting a V6 or a 2.6 liter 4-cylinder. The Toyota V8 "Lexis" article is funny too.

Nice Stuff guys!

The old Hennessey ad is cool. I remember I have an article somewhere that features his 3000 GT VR4....I think it's from the Silver State Race in a Car & Driver article or something.

That shot of the watercolor in Pop Science is cool. I'll have to find it. I was a magazine subscription whore when I was in high school. Two very unfortunate things relative to DSM memorabilia:

1. I was a VW guy til mid '96
2. When I got out of the service in late 1992....I took 22 monster Hefty bags of magazines to the garbage. They were in stacks to the ceiling in my mom's condo basement- my room as a teen. I can only imagine what DSM stuff got tossed.....

So, I've been moving stuff out of storage to the new place. Final move will be over the next week or so. Look what I found! Brought it home and took some shots to toss up here. I wonder how many DSMrs have ever seen one of these. This was given to me with the shop manuals when I bought my Talon from the original owner in October, 1996. Obviously, he never installed it. Take a look at the invoice: $389.00 and this was in March of 1990! Enjoy!

Despite getting rid of all those mags, you still have alot of dsm stuff. I can just imagine all the ads and articles that you had though.

The preluber is nuts. Awesome that its mint and unused.

Speaking of when you were a VW guy. I finally scanned in that flyer for the EIP Tuning import shootout that you have the shirt from. Cool to see that they had a Diamond Star category. You can see in the flyer they had a couple of VWs featured.

Thanks, glad you like it! I think it's a pretty rare piece.

I do have that EIP ad for the shootout somewhere that I pulled from a V-dub mag...or maybe European Car. Thanks for posting it up! It's actually significant to me as I view July 4, 1996 as the day that got me into the DSM world....and I've enjoyed my stay!

True, I do still have quite a bit of DSM stuff, and my collection grows almost weekly depending on how much I can find. Unfortunately, I've had to go and find magazines that I used to have in order to get some DSM stuff back.

One quick thing relative. I was going through a bunch of my stuff a while back, my VW clippings actually. Found an article on some VW, maybe a Corrado or something, and on the back of one of the pages was one page of an article on a Galant VR4. The other pages must have been tossed as they were not VW relative........:( - It was a Sports Car International mag.

The ones that I regret tossing the most were my Autoweek. I loved that mag and had alot of the huge paper ones that my Uncle would give me every year at Christmas. Those big ones ended before DSM time came though! I do love automotive memorabilia as a whole. I have memorabilia, tons of it, that is not DSM related. I have quite a few diecast cars, maybe up near 1000 total of all kinds. Ironically, when it comes to muscle cars, I'm a Mopar fan. Blame "The Dukes of Hazzard" for that...LOL. My auto interests stretch pretty far. I've been into WRC and BTCC, STCC, etc for a long time. Just two years back I gave a picture to Randy Pobst, here at Lime Rock in CT, that I had taken of him with his Euro Accord R on pit road in 1996. Donohue and Dobson were there with the Super Touring Stratus' which I also loved. Great times. Anyway, enough on that.

All in all, I love searching for new memorabilia. You THINK, "can there be any more new stuff out there?" There ALWAYS is!

Oh, and BTW, you have a pretty huge collection yourself!

Also, nice shot of Dan Kraft.....I was actually at E-town with the whole Extreme Motorsports crew when he made that 10.7 pass......wow that was a long time ago! And I still haven't gone 10's....LOL

Hard to tell but i think some of the talons in the beginning of this thread are in the video Just look like the same color scheme.
I have a few articles and things with dsm's on them in a box somewhere. I'll look to see if I can find them.

Was actually gonna post this in the Road Race Forum. Awesome vid. And, yes, if you look back through the thread you will find the Paul Rossi Racing Talons in some ads and other coverage. This winner in this vid, Garth Ullom, is also the 1990 IMSA champ, from Carlisle, PA. John Norris and Mike Rutherford are also in the vid in the Dave Wolin Racing, Mitsu backed Eclipses.

Now that is cool! Hard to believe I was only 4 years old during that race!

p.s. Acura winshield wipers suck, LOL. ROFL

That is funny....

How bout just plain Acura sucks.

I'm a fan of the old Integra race cars actually....but not when they beat the Talons......as it did happen here and there....

Seen this today.

Great post. Nce to see these cars in action.

Like Phil mentioned, these cars are indeed the ones we posted photos of earlier in this thread.

Dave Wolin was the one who built up all the Team Mitsubishi USA cars

The Coin is awesome. Just further validates the post, 1,000,000 car first convertible and 10 years of incorporation.

Sad to say that alot of good stuff I had too, is lost or got misplaced over the years. I am approaching 19 years in the military and that has meant alot of moves.

:thumb:LOL yup!! I wasnt even born yet! Glad to see that video!!
Wow, I have had my Talon longer than you been alive. Man do I feel old.

haha yea bin having mind for 3 years it was my first car!
And as you can see im only 19....

That's awesome, glad to see you're interested in where these cars came from and what they've accomplished.

Great post. Nce to see these cars in action.

Glad you like....the coin is a heavy piece too!

I'm sure...it's a bummer. For instance, when I stopped playing with toys and was full blown into BMX riding.....I put all my Hot Wheels, diecast, my full Dukes of Hazzard collection(LOL)and other stuff in storage to make room for all my BMX magzines and crap. Went into the storage unit one day to look for something....ALL STOLEN. It burns me to this day. And I kept my stuff MINT. I looked in a Tomart's Hot Wheels guide --- $7,400 in Hotwheels stolen. My Dukes Stuff was priceless. I have a few items that thankfully weren't in the unit at the time, but, wow. I know it's not the same as what you're saying, but, it's still stuff that I had that's gone......

.....wow 19 years in....good for you man! Had I stayed in....July 2009 would have been my 20 year. In ways I wish I had stayed in.......but, it's a good bet I'd still be a VW guy.

And, last, here's a couple ad's for Jim Russel's school using 245 HP race prepped Eclipse GS-T's. Enjoy:

Pretty wild stuff there Phil. Seems Like we grew up in similiar time frames, trend wise. When I was young I also did alot of BMX, but mainly Freestyle. I had a day glo yellow kuwahara bravo kt, which was my freestyle bike and a Blue Max which was my BMX. Wont bore you or the readers with all the extra goodies they had, but followed guys like Eddie Fiola, Martin Aparijo.

The Jim Russell stuff is really cool. I like that alot and have never seen it before. I especially like the second color article. Looks like he was partially sponsored by Yokohama, which back then was pretty rare, because their market share was so small.

For today's installment, another ad clipping. One of the first 1G Big brake kits.

I think we did...you're right......

The ad you posted is pretty significant as I know for sure that this front brake set up was what the Archer Brother's had on their Talons in the 1990 season! Awesome find!

Forgive me everyone, but I've got to go slightly off topic here as this is just too ironic.....I was a dirt jumper turned Freestyler......'85 Haro Master...winter '85-'86....Jose we could talk for weeks on end.....

Glad you like that ad. Def a rare big brake kit.

That photo is awesome. Well before the digital age, so getting the timing spot on at home with a conventional 35mm or 110 I know was very hard. Going for a look back? I liked the Haro bikes alot. I think it was Ron Wilkerson I use to watch that ran a Haro.Looks like yours was before the Gyro as your brake goes trough the goose neck. The Tuffs are awesome. Why one front peg? I also had a quarter pipe in my back yard till the cops came by and made me tear it down. No insurance on it and too many local kids were coming over to use it.

Another clipping scan for you guys. These clutches were pretty popular back in the day. For quite a while they ran ads with a red 1G in the back ground. Most might remember that the most. But this one predates those. But see if you can spot whats special about this one.

Paul Rossi Racing built all the cars you see that have the white and blue paint scheme
Another nice photo of Garth Ullom in the #15 car he raced in the above video and became the 1990 IMSA champion.

Thanks, glad you like. I had to toss it up. I just got back on a bike a couple years back...after being off them for 21 years. Still have another Haro Master that was mine since high school. The infamous neon green Master I'm riding in the pic was stolen. If you look between the two barns behind me you can see snow on the ground. We rode ALL year. I was a diehard Team Haro fan. And Ron Wilkerson was my favorite rider bar none. I still have the 1985 tour poster from the trick show they did here at a local BMX track. I only ran one peg up from because that's the side that I used for certain rolling and balancing tricks. I loved Skyway Tuff Wheels as well. And, I ended with the ACS Rotor Detangler-the first of it's kind. Gyro was cool, but, it had two major problems- #1 it tore the crap out of the inside of my legs during certain tricks #2 The upper cable always broke. I went back to the ACS Rotor.

Ok, back on topic: Ah....the John Shep quote. That's totally believable too....the MPH gain. I have the RPS ads in Turbo mags with the red 1gb lighting the tires.....

That pic of Garth should be from the 1991 Season.....reason being is the "Luk Clutch" series sponsor was dropped after he won the Championship in 1990 and renamed to the new sponsor, obviously, "Toyo Tires." The Rossi cars looked sick......

Dave Wolin was first out of the gate in IMSA Luk Clutch with the Eclipses in 1989....Rossi wasn't out yet with the Talons....but the MX6 Turbo and skills of Dave Jolly were too much for the Eclipses, thus Dave won the championship. Bummer....would have like to see Wolin's Eclipses win in 1989.

And for today, a few pics of the Woodstock Motorsports Eclipses. These cars ran in the IMSA Firestone Firehawk Series and definitely got noticed. Enjoy!

I never used any of the detanglers myself. Just had to make sure I spun the bars back sometime during my routine.

The Rossi car does look tough in the photo-purpose built, gotta love it.

Seen pictures of the Woodstock cars and only have a photo or two of them. But never the write up on them. great article.

small contribution for today. some old school tuning, with box and harness.

Todays contribution.

Few pics of some more old school tuning.

We already know that the european market got Targas and Roadsters.

There was also a shop in Europe that was putting out wide bodies also. Pay no mind to the "Pinafarina" badging on the cars. The cars are by no means associated with Ferrari's design house. Just seems all the guys with the widebodies bought "Pinafarina" badges to put on the cars.

The rear sheetmetal was extended so much that the last pictured car is running
18" x 11.5" wheels with a 10 offset on the rears
and 285/30R18 rubber. Pretty wide for 1G
