oil to water cooled turbo?

Im in the process of getting parts to rebuild my turbo, I have a PTE 5031 thats oil cooled and found a garrett oil/water cooled chra that looks identical but its missing the 3 holes to bolt down the 360 thrust, but thats it. Is it possible for me to switch to a water cooled chra or is it even neccesarry?The Garrett water cooled center housing part # is 430027-0050 ill post pics so you can see what im talking about thanks

Why did you buy a new center housing, were the journals shot? Garrett center housings are rather durable; I've actually never had to replace one because of the journals being worn too much. A new set of journal bearings should fix your up/down play issue.

PTE and some Turbonetics center housings are drilled for a bolt-down thrust plate, while most Garretts that I've seen simply use the thrust plate retainer that normally holds the 270* thrust plates down. This would explain why your new center housing isn't drilled if it's a Garrett part.

no I didnt buy it yet, It was just a thought maybe to improve the life of my turbo....

I just got in new journal bearings and snap rings today so shaft play is gone. Im still looking for a kit or individual parts. I found "T3 / T4 Turbo Stagger Gap Turbine Shaft Seal" is that any good? another kit I found was this one on ebay just to replace a couple screws here and there but im not sure of the quality it has everything else I need, take a look and tell me what you think....

You don't need to change the center housing unless it's damaged.

Stagger-gap turbine seals are a must-have on T3 center housings if you're feeding your oil supply from the filter housing.

and what about that link to the turbo kit on ebay, is that okay to put on my turbo, or where can I find a good quality rebuild kit from?
