i was just wondering if Garrett turbos needed both oil and water feeds or just oil, i know mitsu turbos need both, simple question i just didn't know the answer. help would be great thanks

That depends, some CHRA's are both water and oil cooled while others are oil cooled only. A turbo timer is a must, especially when running turbos that are only oil cooled.

Basically, journal/standard bearing turbos come in both variation and all ball bearing turbos are always both water and oil cooled.

IMO If it's designed to be water cooled then it should be water cooled regardless if it's Garrett or Mistu. Many have blocked off the water passages and run oil only but who knows what the long term effect really is.

Ball-bearing aside, I can't think of any turbo that NEEDS both hooked up. Doesn't hurt to run both, but tons of people run them with only the oil line connected.

And, no, Mitsu turbos don't need the water lines.

i would agree. Mits turbos are water cooled to keep them lasting longer, and the fact that most people dont turbo time them half the time

To me, the question is why not? In most case, it requires little to no fabrication. One can at least argue that AFPR costs $200 when running without one, sound effects when venting BOV. In this case, I simply see no reason not to run the water lines.
