HAs anyone killed a turbo with to much oil psi ? I have a PTE SCM50 Turbo, and no balancce shafts. I know that not having the BS's increase oil psi, but is that to much for the bearing ? I noticed while changing gears, that a puff of smoke comes out. I nkow its not coolant. This has been going on for awhile, and I went to do a boostleak test and now the compressor wheel is a lot harder to spin now, then when I 1st got it.

So my question is , can to much oil psi kill the center section/bearing ?

i killed my pte 50 trim with to much oil pressure :notgood: i had no BS shafts, -4an from the filter housing

I have the AMS oil kit, witch comes with -4an feed line from filter housing as well. Very true that it could be, but then why does my friends VR4 do teh same thing and he jsut got his head rebuilt 1,000 miles ago with all new parts. I had to put my 14b back on today, and took it for a drive to make sure everything was ok, and no puff of smoke. SO that tells me that oil was getting past the seals and being burnt.

are you sure its a -4 line you have. we have not used -4 line in over 1 1/2 years. we only use it now on ballistic series turbo's. I take it you are feeding it from the oil filter housing?

when did you pick it up from us?

I just noticed the original post. A puff of smoke between shifts or on decel is totally normal on a journal bearing turbo. You have nothing to worry about. It just pushes a little bit of oil durring those conditions. if its doing it under acceleration you have a problem

I would like to know when you purchased that line kit from us.

Its prolly been almost a year ago, and im on a PTE SCM50.

The Compressor wheel is harder to spin that it was when 1 first got the Turbo, and I checked the oil line, nothing clogging it or restricting oil passage.

we use -3 now. you might want to stop on in and pick one up. there normally $60. Ill let one go for $50 considering you allready have our -4

well precision turbo requires you to run out lines and or buschur's ( I know there is one other) in order to keep the warranty on the turbo. in his case the turbo is far out of warranty so it wouldnt really matter.

$30 is dirt. we use aeroquip ends and line which is ous is more to make. $30 is under what it costs me to make that damn thing for.

odd, i have no problems with my -3an line setup.. i also used aeroquip fittings.. Got the fittings from jegs and the line from a vendor on ebay.. I dont see how your line is any better than what i run. i guess because its' twice the price and comes from AMS makes it better? :notgood:

way to go you made yours cheaper.

Again we cant even make it for that price.

my comment on Dirt was refereing to dirt cheap btw. I went back and read it and it could be construed as saying your line was inferior.

im so sick of how vendors get treated on this site. you make it sound like we are all rolling in our phat cars rolling up to our lavish houses. we make enough to keep the doors open and invest every dime back into the company. I have no problem with customers saving a dime. most dont have the choice. but please dont make snide remarks about our company based on your $30 oil line.
