All oil sender threads are merged here.

going down the road today i noticed my oil pressure gauge was reading nothing or zero depending on how you look at it..on my stock gauge..

i immediatly pulled over to check my oil and found that it and the rest of my car was fine..its still running fine and everything so i came home to check vfaq.com and it said that my sensor could be the culprit..

so my question is there a website or link to a page that will show my hw to check my sensor??? and or replace what is needed to read my oil pressure... or shuold i just say #### it and get a aftermarket gauge right now because its more accurate anyways?..

yeah im new around here so go easy on me..but i didnt think this was a dumb question or anything so thats why i put it here..

I just removed my oil filter housing. cleaned it. took the big set screw out and re taped it for a 3/8-18 pipe tap. cleaned it again and blew it out. Then i screwed a 3/8s to 1/4 brass pipe fitting in and screwed my sender in. I used pipe dope of course. 1/4 inch senders are very common in gauge kits. Autometer includes the 3/8s fitting in with their gauges. then i used a new gasket coated in copper spray and torqued it down and checked for leaks.

What adapter would you need to use one of the allen plug ports on the 2g water cooled OFH? I want to run a remote line to my sending unit and I want to keep my stock sending unit. So, I must use one of the allen plug ports. I figure I would need a 3/8" BSPT to -3an adapter. Can anyone verify?

My oil pressure gauge is reading about 1/4 higher than it should. It also reads at 1/4 of the gauge sweep when I have the switch on but the engine is off. Can anyone please go out to their car, I have a 2g turbo, and see what the oil pressur gauge shows with the key in the ignition, the key turned until electrical power is available to the accessories etc., but the engine off. Thanks.

im in need of a oil pressure sender i already replaced the switch i just went to auto zone and the guy told me that the oil sender and switch is the same thing? they do not have the sender in stock but he said that i could use the switch? i didnt buy it because it just didnt sound right

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Auto Meter 100 PSI Electric Oil Pressure Gauge Sender

so will this one work with the factory guage? or should i just go out to autozone and buy a autometer guage with one in it? and if i buy the auto meter guage do i have to hook up the aftermarket guage or can i just use the sender and use my factoryh guage?

No that will not work with the factory gauge. If you want your factory gauge to work, buy a new OEM sender. If you want an aftermarket then buy an Autometer, 0-150 psi, and either "T" is so you retain the factory gauge or just install it in place of the factory sender. It's your call.

Hope this helps!

went to auto zone and bought a cheapo oil pressure guage and i got pressure!! it says on th box to unplugg the oil pressure switch should i? i guess the lights gonna stay on since its not the factory sender right?

well when i have the car on at like idle the oil light kicks on but as soon as i tap the gas it shuts off but the manual for the guage says to unplug it. wheres a good power source and ground for my oil guage? my neighbor said to run the wires to the battery but wouldnt that drain it and the guage would be on all the time?

i didnt use any of the factory harness but the oil light is still kicking on but as soon as i hit the gas it shuts off the car does have oil pressure i was just wondering if i should pull the switch plug? and i didnt realize there is a cig lighter fuse i think that blew and thats the reason why my guage worked before i installed it and when i did the final instal it must have blew im a dummy

What does the new gauge read when the light is on?
It's possible the pressure switch is also bad or it's good and you have a problem with the idle pressure. The sensor is cheap and it's worth have the redundancy when it come to oil pressure.

Ill check out the idle in the morning thanks man i def wanna keep the idiot light its brand new i just got it. this car is a headache when i tap the gas the oil guage raises up i know i have oil pressure

Well. I'm working on a similar issue, thanks to this I know where the blue wire goes, and one of the yellows. However, the blue has a yellow with it, and there is a separate yellow hanging down a few inches further towards the drivers side. It has what appears to be a 90 degree female bullet connector on it. It doesn't fit on the idiot light and I've got no clue as to where else it is supposed to be going.

Any clues?

Perhaps your talking about the power steering pressure switch wire.
There is a post sticking forward on the power steering pump that it fits on.

Ahh, I bet that is it ... and I know why I couldn't find it too. The bozo who had this before me removed the power steering. Something I have to add back later. Thanks!

Hey, I was wondering if someone could help me out with this problem. Today I was driving across the Columbia into portland and I noticed that my oil pressure needle slowly started to dive and it got to the point where it reached the farthest mark on the left, so, as most DSMers do, I panicked, pulled over, and popped the hood. I shut the car off after about 15sec to let it cool a little bit, and I checked the oil level on the dipstick, and it was perfectly fine. I looked at the wire that goes to the pressure sender and there was a butt splice that looked super sketchy, so I started heading home and my pressure gauge was working just fine, then dipped to "no pressure", then returned to its normal spot by the time I got home. I replaced the bad connector with a new one and heat shrunk the connection, took it out for a drive and it was working just great, till it dipped back into the "no pressure" region again...and then returned to the "normal pressure" range within 3 minutes of 30mph driving. My question is, since it wasn't the connection that was faulty (or is it??) could this be a sign of the pressure sender going bad or what?

Exact same problem here as you are having. Happened about a week ago, did the same thing as you LOL. Ever since it has been intermittenly fine and then dropping. I have noticed that if it drops below the normal range and I let off the gas to engine brak, and then give it gas again, it slowly comes back up. But tonight it would only come just above the lowest line on the stock gauge. Any ideas on what we are experiencing here guys? I'm down to: 1.)oil pressure sender-most likely 2.)oil pump-possibly or 3.)excessive clearance-doubtful(which I highly doubt considering a recent compression test showed 160-163 in all 4 cylinders). I'd really appreciate any opinions because I'm kind of starting to freak out about this.

Quick question here. I am going to be putting an an autometer oil pressure gauge and putting the gauge in my dash in place of the stock one. Since I am replacing the stock gauge completely, can I just thread my autometer pressure sensor on where the stock sensor was? I'd rather not buy anything else to attach it, and if the other gauge will no longer exist it should work fine right?

okay need some help here....my car would shoot out a big cloud of blue smoke when I hit boost and release off the gas...When im cruising no blue smoke what so ever. my turbo oil lines are soaked/dripping oil pretty badly...I plan on changing them this weekend, but could this be why im getting this smoke? Also at high boost,my oil pressure would spike and my oil light would come on. Thnks 4 the help
