Yesterday I went and pulled a handful of items from a 99’ GST that was headed to the scrap yard, not my decision but the car is rusty and has had most useable parts pulled, anyways, I got a white 99’ gauge cluster and two matching white face gauges to go with it and was wondering how I could roll the odometer on the white gauge set to match what my current one says. Nothing scummy going on here I want to install the white cluster but I want to try my best to make sure the odometer on the new cluster reflects my mileage. My car currently has 249,000 and some change, I’d verify before doing anything obviously and write down the mileage on both odometers before alteration. I live in the state of Alabama and we have no emissions, inspections, or any testing of the sort. As far as I know this is perfectly legal to do and I see no issues with this due to rolling FOWARD rather than backwards to reflect the true mileage of the car. Any help is appreciated greatly, thanks for the read.

Before you tear into it and go through that hassle make sure it’s a true ‘99 gauge cluster, right now it’s looking like those are eBay white overlays installed in that cluster. Pictured below is a 99 cluster from another post on this site compared to the one you bought, see the differences? Also, many of the available aftermarket white gauge overlays had redline marked at 7500rpm like the one you have here, no factory dsm cluster ever had redline marked at 7500rpm.

Ahh! Yea now that you say that I do see the difference, so it probably is just an ebay stick on kit. But I only paid $100 for it + the two gauges + a steering wheel that’s in almost brand new condition, it’s got a little bit of red vinyl inside the logo but oh well. I’m not to worried about it. Thanks for letting me know though, I appreciate it.

If you like those overlays it might be worth it to see if you can toss them in your existing cluster that way you don’t have to mess with an odometer, your mileage will be correct and go up on the cars original cluster as you drive it. Also, don’t waste your time with that narrowband air fuel ratio gauge, back in the day they were handy used in conjunction with an EGT gauge and logger to give us an idea of what was going on, but this was also in 2005 before we had wideband air fuel ratio gauges easily and affordably available that gives us an accurate reading on one device opposed to a “guestimate” from multiple gauges and devices. In the year 2023 they’re absolutely useless unless you take hallucinogens then the blinky lights are something to see, but otherwise all it does is cycle with the o2 sensor.

Got the mileage matched from the black one over to the white one, but after installing it I concluded that it was for sure not an oem, terrible quality, ended up taking it back out and just putting the black one in. Not sure what I’ll do with this one for now.

Hard to see anything. Yea I'd keep using the black cluster as well. They white one may look better if backlit with LED bulbs but still opaque.

Where did you find this parts car? I haven't noticed any at local junkyards and scrap yards.

Facebook marketplace, nice younger guy over in Atlanta, I live in Oxford, AL which is right slap in the middle between Birmingham and ATL so I don’t mind the drive over state lines.
