I just picked up a 97 gsx. I had a 95 gsx back in high school but never got very far with it. Now that I'm older I am hoping to make this 97 what I always wanted my first Dsm to be. So onto my question, there's white face gauges installed on this thing, I installed what I thought was the same thing on my first car and they were just overlays so I just pulled this cluster out figuring I could just pull them off quick and go back to stock but not the case. When I pulled them off it's just clear plastic behind them. Please tell me there's a way to get the stock ones back... I suppose I could get a whole new stock cluster but the only thing is that this car has what I believe to be only 73k original miles so I would like to keep that on record.

The only way to get the oem black faces on is to remove the needles, then swap the faces. The needles come off real easy, use a fork to pry them up. However, make sure you do something to ensure you put the needles back on in the same spots or all your gauges will need to be recalibrated. Best way to do that I guess is to use a scanner that has real time data. I've done that in the past and got the needles fairly accurate. This doesn't really work for boost, oil pressure, or fuel though, but the pin the fuel needle is attached to won't move when you remove the needle, so that one can be placed back in the same spot with no worry.

Thanks for the reply! Well when I was taking the faces off I broke the stop pin on the mph so I think my best option would be findind a used cluster off here and just not worry about the mileage. What do you think?

When I redid my 3g gauges I also broke two of my stops and I just went and found an old die cast car and took those screws out and threaded them into the hole when the pins were. If you are careful and clever you can save those gauges. But in all reality new ones would just be plain easier.
