I'll be welding mine some more and adding bracing as well. Buy an erl when I can afford it, but this will do for now.

I wonder if we're the only 3 guys on this forum that'll be running this manifold. Lol. I'm still waiting to see if they'll exchange mine. Just looked in the box yesterday and saw the warranty card that warranties against defects, etc. So I don't see any reason why I WOULDN'T have a new one sent to me.

Make it 4, I bought the cheaper one after seeing this thread. I had just ran into a situation with another manifold I had purchased a while back hitting the block so I just got this one to try out. Mine looked very good upon arrival. Mocked it up and only one of the outer holes on the flange to the head need to be drilled out a little. I have and H1E/Hx40 with BEP T3 .70 a/r Housing and it clears by about .5". I will take some pictures later.

I made this today out of steel.

Just wondering but where did you get that wastegate adaptor? Personally, when I upgrade to the ERL down the road, I'd prefer to not have to buy another wastegate.

Next week when I get back to school, I'm gonna take my manifold to school and weld a piece of metal from the wastegate pipe to the number one runner (like the ERL does). I'm also gonna reweld some of the welds that look like crap, or just thin, and make some of those square supports and weld underneath the runners I've seen on some other manifolds.

Use 347 rod when welding on 321. Also from what I hear these thin manifolds pick up a ton of strength going heavy on the filler rod. I plan on filling the crapola out of the WG weld today and making a brace. I'll throw up some pics when I'm done.

Here are some pictures with the Hx40 BEP .70a/r housing clearance. I'm not sure about the waterpipe clearance though, it might be tight. I need to get the water pump on the block and check it out. I wonder it if welding on a couple braces from flange to flange would void the warranty. It's kind of a toss up, bracing it to avoid cracking and voiding the warranty(most likely) or taking it off everytime to send back to them to fix it. It's only temporary. The only reason I didn't buy the ERL is because I ran out of money from building the rest of the car. But it should be pretty close to ERL placement though so we shouldn't have to change much of anything if anyone buys one in the future.

Where did you get your housing? Anyone carrying them for less than $200?

Are you really worried about the warranty?
By looking at forcefed, it's going to crack,LOL.

Thanks.

Was thinking of mig welding over it. Not sure how well that'll do. But it's easy and I'm good at it. Lol. Thoughts?

I bought it from BEP back when they first came out for about $200. I don't know about pricing these days I would assume they are more than that.

I wouldn't doubt if that didn't happen in shipping by looking at the box. So would we need to use the same grade stainless and good stainless wire to have strong welds if I were to put 2 bar braces from flange to flange. I only have a little wire feed with flux core wire so I'm sure my welder wouldn't do a good enough job.

They are still roughly the same price so I guess I'll just have to suck it up..

They look like a very good product, I can't say how well it performs yet - my car doesn't move right now. I can't wait to get this thing running, this rebuild process has taken forever. It's exciting to see the times people are getting with these Hx40's!

I have a set up I need to have put together by next weekend for Lucas to tune.. Time is not on my side at all but I am gunna try anyways..

Just like to point out that the OP's manifold has already cracked....lasted a whopping two months.

Please OP, if you are going to start threads about how awesome your ebay manifold is, you need to update those threads when the manifold inevitably falls apart so other people don't follow in those footsteps and support crappy vendors.
Scroll up to post #100.

He's not hiding anything here.

Everything has already been documented. Read the whole thread before posting. If you had read the entire thread you would see no one is claiming how "awesome" this manifold is. As far as I know, nobody has run one long enough to make any claims. Good or bad. I only stated my previous experience with OBX products.

Who knows what caused the small crack in my manifold. It could easily have been stress from shipping. A 20 minute repair hardly condemns this manifold. If this is the only problem I have, I'll be thrilled. The SFP manifolds seem to hold up well with the same design and no WG brace. So I could have just been unlucky. On the other hand, the entire manifold may split in half tomorrow.

You have no experience with this product, so you have no reason to be posting in this thread.

Gonna take mine to school tomorrow and get some welds on it. I know someone is saying to tig it, but I figure I can mig it. Do a root pass over the tig welds and then do a weave back and forth to make it wider and tie in to more metal....and hopefully more strength. Gonna make a brace for the wastegate pipe to the #1 runner, and square thingy's under the runners. Then maybe 2 braces from the turbo flange to the bottom of #2 and #4 runners. Hoping I can do a good job on it. If it doesn't totally look like crap, I'll post up some pics :)

Can't hurt, what wire do you plan on using?

I'm not up to par with all the numbers....yet. But using a .030? .30? I'm just told what to weld and I weld it. Lol. At least I'm blowing by most people. Have already blown past most of the people in my class that started last semester. This is my 1st semester. So, hoping I'll be the next Ron Shearer??? Lol. Here's to hoping.

I went to a welding and machining school that lasted 6 months in the Airforce but that was a good while back and was very brief. Finished my school, broke my foot, and 14 screws and a metal plate later, I ended up getting out in 2005. So yeah, it's been awhile. Anywho, wish me luck on the welding tomorrow.
