Hello everyone, well i just got a 95 gst and the check engine light is on. my friend told me that it needs a new map sensor and it'll be fine. also the car idles pretty high from 1100-2000. the car runs fine and everything. anyone know where i can find a cheap map sensor?

also. after i fix the CEL and get the car on the streets.... im gonna do a tune up and stuff but i would like to know what you guys did first on your eclipses for the most performance for the buck. I was thinking getting new intake/intercooler piping first or a new down pipe and custom exhaust or a boost controller.

thanks guys!

(also need a new bumper, dont like the blitz one thats on it. wondering if the 97+ bumpers would fit on it.) also is the car a 2g? since its a 95?

i love going to mitsubishi grave yard or giving them a call for little parts like that.
quick, reliable. been in the dsm game for a long time

Whoa.. buddy slow down..

First off how does your buddy know it is the map sensor? Does he have telekinises withe cars engine and Ecu?

You have a ton of researching to do before you axe all these questions. Considering the newest generation of talon/eclipse's is '99.. These cars are over 10yrs old! Been covered over and over

Here is a good place to start!

Welcome. A 97 bumper would bolt on but you are going to want to get 97+ headlights

LOL. Your car doesnt have a MAP sensor. It has a MAS or MAF sensor. Whichever floats your boat. And the fact that your first post has the words "check engine light is on" OFFICIALLY makes you a DSM owner. I dont own one personally. Ive built my gf's gst and gsx. After dealing with them and how tight the engine bay is compared to my galant and how its uncomfortable to ride in for me id never own one. They are pretty fun. However a custom built boosted galant is even more fun ;-)

Welcome to the site this is the best place you can come to find out anything and everything about your car, an the user's are more than welcome to help out as best to there ability. Tech Guide - DSMtuners here is a good link to check out for being a newcomer. If you plan on doing any modifications make sure to do the regular maint. first before going hog wild.

Oh an i forgot this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/191045-budget-dsm-performance.html . Probably one of the most helpful links i have found.

I seriously LOL'd at that. true story.

since your car is a '95 then yes, that makes it a 2nd gen. 2nd gens. go from '95 to '99 i believe. and I would seriously start with a tune up first and foremost, just to get things going. get your car hooked up to an OBD II scanner to make sure it is the MAF before you replace it and that not be the problem. I know I'd be pissed, heh. check out the "basic maintenance" topic to get you running right, THEN worry about upgrades. nothing like fillin up a car that's been totaled.

but seriously... alot of the folks on here are uber-smart when it comes to these cars and you should LISTEN to what they have to say about different issues you WILL have with this car. 'tis inevitable... these cars have their "moments."

GOOD LUCK! and welcome to the DSM world :D

The sensor on top of the intake manifold is the MAP sensor...its actually called the MDP (Manifold Differential Pressure)

Thanks for the welcome and support guys!

so its a MDP sensor. yeah the one on the intake manifold. he told me that it was the problem because he took it to get a diagnostic on it at a smog shop.... but then again, smog shops arn't that trustworthy. Anways I arrived upon a brand new problem today while i was driving.

The car had some turbo lag when i floored it and while i was flooring it, i shifted, yada yada and after i was done.... the rpm started to become bouncy and lost a CRAP load of power. Now the car drives super duper slow while floored, the gauge cluster still says the turbo is spooling but no power at all. and when i parked it, i popped the hood some smoke came out and i didnt notice any leak. but then i looked under the car and along most of the exhaust piping, smoke was comming from there. (either exhaust piping or from the top of the piping).

any ideas? maybe fuel leak somehwere? bad sparks? lost compression?

Thanks guys.
