thats awesome. love seeing some dsm rally love.

i love mine too much to take it out in the dirt.
snow however, totallyyy different story. :D

If we had enough Rally posts around here to warrant a dedicated forum, I'd be ecstatic! Do you have more Rally friends that would help get such a forum off the ground? I fear that I'd open one and it would be stagnant, similar to what's happened lately with this Road Race forum.

Here is mine :)

I love the pics so far guys.:thumb: Evo3Codriver: That is one hell of a tricked out 1g rally car. That's too pretty to take off road.:p The skid plate up front under the radiator and the hood vents are some of my favorites. Nice work!

Were a Rally forum opened, I'd visit and contribute as much as I could. Not a lot of that going around here that I know of, though. Anyone familiar with any Rally events near the nashville/clarksville area?

I would love to get into rally. I currently have plans to start building up the spare talon for rally.

I just wish there was more rally/autox support period. Its hard to get anyone really interested though because of the limitations imposed by scca. It seems there rule book keeps getting rewritten to screw us. I am just not interested in straight line racing. Its rather boring.

But it seems that the aftermarket support is all geared towards drag racing these days. I guess raw power is just more sexy than suspension mods.

It'd be cool to see a dsm rally forum. I feel like there is no support unless you're in a subie.

I was at a Rally Cross last weekend and I was one of three cars non-subaru out of close to twenty other cars.

Rally or even just gravel/dirt backroads are amazingly fun. I do it on the daily:

My car is too beat up to look pretty, but I've swapped 3 bolt out for a lsd 4 bolt, 95 awd brakes and I have full suspension bushings on the way for it.

I don't have the kind of money to be dedicated so I've been slowly beefing it up and modding it. The motor I swapped from my old fwd. Stock turbo, evo 9 fuel pump and injectors. I really need to make a good solid skid plate, how thick are you guys making them? Can you send me or post up some underside pics to see what's been done?

Also be curious to see what everyone is using for skid plates.

Right now I'm missing most of the plastic splashguards around the fender wells and the under bumper bottoms.

I'm pretty sure that I lost my SMIC to a rock this last weekend. After cleaning the car off and hosing the dirt/rocks off the intercooler it stopped idling correctly... going to have make some kind of guard for it before the next event in October

1/4" aluminum, not sure what alloy is it but it's the hard one.. Mounts to both stock towing ears all the way to the end of control arms.

Evo3Codriver Killer car very Nice!!!

My 91 TSI AWD Auto is going to be my rally car. I've been practicing on back roads all summer. Its way to much fun!!!

Plans for the winter include roll cage, built motor,EVO III 16G turbo,Foreign Muscle TCU upgrade, rear toe eliminator kit.

Still trying to figure what the best route would be for suspension mods. But I'm getting a ton of good ideas from this thread.:thumb:

Wow, can't believe I've never seen this thread! A big +1 on a DSM rally forum! And that is a beautiful car Evo3. Almost too pretty to throw in the dirt....almost.
Local rally has got to be the cheapest auto sport out there and you can enter with any kind of vehicle and be among others with similar rides, so it all comes down to the driver. I encourage all of you who can, go try it out at your local dirt course or track.

I rally my Mazda 323 with the local circuits here in CO and for all you other Rocky Mountain folk, here's the site that I started with:

Colorado RallyCross

But due to unforeseen circumstances, I probably won't be racing the Mazda next season. So the Laser's getting demoted from DD to rally racer here soon!

I've never raced the Laser, so does anyone have any recommendations for tires in the dirt for the 1Gs by any chance?
I'm running the stock 16 inch meshies for the moment and had some used Goodyear Eagles on there. Taking it through the dirt roads nearby, I think my 175s on my Mazda have more grip. Obviously I need some new rubber LOL.

And let's try and keep this thread going so Ludachris will be kind and open a dedicated section for us :).

Evo3 Co driver WHERE did you get that bumper? Do you ever want to get rid of it?

I made it out of the factory bumper.

Hacked out material for more airflow to intercooler and the diamond shapes in center.

I molded some HomeDepot plumbing PCV pipe that matched the size of my Hella 500 driving lights to the bumper cover. The lights themselves are mounted to radiator support by a brackets I fabricated from a Porsche boxter suspension parts. The bumper cover slides over the lights when you mount the bumper cover. This reduces vibration and makes aiming the lights easier.

I had to add some bumper cover material to cover holes behind the light buckets so I hacked out some material from a totaled Porsche Cayenne bumper cover. I used a sandable filler to bond the light bucket in the front so it was all smooth and behind the cover I used a Mercedes windshield adhesive kit which would allow some flex.

Not for sale.
