Watching the rally stages at x-games has got me thinking. Our dsm's are old news as far as factory sponsors and anything else goes in racing at that level but from what I have read WRC limits the power of the all out rally cars to 315 hp and about 2700 lbs. at the lightest. The trick is they do not limit torque so they have upwards of 425lbs. of torque and was wondering how they make the torque so much higher than hp on just a 2.0 liter? Obviously the chassis is where they dump all there money in these cars but I would think that doing a DSM because of the potent engine squeezing 315 hp would be pretty easy with a 4g63.

They have high torque but lowish HP because they have built engines with intake (air-flow) restrictors. That 425 foot-pounds is down around 3000 rpm.

And there have been plenty of rally cars with 4g63s. Google Tommi Makinen. Second-most successful driver ever.

Just don't dream of doing this in a 2G.

With gas being so high everything is getting smaller. The Chevy Sonic that is coming out looks appealing. Turbo 1.4 hatch w/ 150 ft. lb stock w/ 6 speed manual @ 2800 lbs with 40 mpg and only 15k brand new.

If it came awd I would be all over it. What ever happen to the small turbo awd cars. I would love a awd hatch to run around with in the city and upstate. I don,t want a evo, sti,or r32. Those cars are piggly small and light is the name of the game.
