Rally or even just gravel/dirt backroads are amazingly fun. I do it on the daily:

Where I live that is unavoidable LOL. My rear bumper is like that 100% of the time.

Its the skidplate. What you see is just the tip of the iceberg. It protects the entire underneath of the engine compartment.

It was fabricated from scratch starting w/ sheet of 1/4 inch aluminum, bending leading edge up to protect bumper and intercooler, holesawing some ventilation holes, trimming sides for A-arm travel, drilling mounting holes and vent for atmospheric wastegate discharge out the bottom.

I love seeing DSMs rally racing! I have a bunch of pics on my computer at home, I'll upload some tonight or tomorrow.

Evo3Codriver, do you have a picture of your skid plate from the bottom?

No, but I have it off the car (no reason driving around town w/ extra 40 lbs and keeping hot air trapped in engine compartment). I'll take a pic tomorrow and post. I'll be slapping skidplate back on before it snows deep enough I want it on.

Here are some DSM rally pictures. I don't remember who they belong to, some are members on here, others I just got by searching the internet.

What's the status of getting a "Rally" forum added?? How much interest do we have to generate in order to be come legit'.:hmm:

I for one, am prepping for the drag strip, because down here in the Charlotte area, not much in the way of rallies, but I've grown up with the sport in Europe for over 20 years.

I'd love to either get the forum up and watch the community grow and at least maybe encourage more guys to get into it in their area. Once you've rallied you're hooked!!!:hellyeah::hellyeah:

+1 on adding a rally forum (Ludachris?).

And for all you Rocky Mountain folk that wanna get started with some local RallyCross.... Colorado RallyCross

It's pretty much dominated by Subarus right now, but It would be great to see more DSMs there!

Sandblast Rally in Cheraw, SC.

:D Yeah been to it twice now and planned on helping one of our members from Michigan( I think) that came down this year. I sadly had a unexpected work emergency and wasn't able to make it. I'm going in 2011 for sure and try and help if I can.

The other sad thing is I want to get a little more value for my money on this rebuild and 1 rally in the lower SouthEast isn't gonna convince my wife that it's worth it, hence prepping for Drag.

I may have to look into the RallyX stuff, some guys run a 1 a month deal in up state NC. At least it's on the dirtROFL

There is Rally Tennessee, Rally WVa, occasional rallies at Euro Rally School in Florida, and Cherokee Trails Rally outta Chattanooga may return someday. I live 500 miles and 8 hours to Canadian border and have done 50 Canadian rallies, most much further than just getting to the border.

I did Nopi Nationals in my DSM. Drag racing did not impress me from the driving perspective. Strip was so wide I could have kept my eyes shut. Steering wheel just there for something to hold onto. Of course braking isn't relevant. And only one run thru the gears before its all over. Oh, and no jumps. And they cancel if it rains.

IMHO, it was more of a 'who dumped most $ into drivetrain' thing.

Thats awesome! I'd love to get in rally one day. It seems so intense action packed. One big problem I can think of though is getting a dedicated, dependable co-driver/navigator. Plus the wear and tear on the car. It sure looks like fun though.

Evo3codriver, I'm originally from Virginia, about 2 hours south of Alexandria. I sure miss all those beautiful trees! Any pics of the skid plate yet?

Got tied up over the weekend getting the drifttruck ready and drifting Sunday. I'm off tomorrow, will try to remember to shoot some.

Here you go!

Here with car so you have scale to see its size.

And the battle scars! Lots of scratches but once it got dented pretty well and took a major pounding with sledge hammer to straighten out. First I tried running it over w/ forklift (forklifts are really heavy) and it didn't budge the dent.
