Now B4 the flaming begins....Let me start by saying i know SSAC is absoultly crap. I also know the track history of fitment and performance of thier parts. What i do want to discuss here is the idea behind the product. I havn't seen o2's like this before and was wondering if anyone had any opinions about using the v-band in that mannor, positives/negatives of the setup etc..

That being said check it out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DSM-...tegoryZ33742QQihZ005QQitemZ150050277614QQrdZ1

If this has been discussed here before(i did search) please delete this post

Thanks

thick flanges = :thumb:
medium sized welds = :|

looks alright for an SSAC product but i'm already good with my stuff.

I'm sure the quality is fine. I've been running another one of their housings without a problem for awhile. The one complaint (and it appears to be true on this one too) is that the WG hole is far too small. Also, WG on the O2 housing = dumbest idea ever.

i dont know much about welding, but if you were to had more welds to the already welded would that be better?

Thicker welds from the beginning are the best.

WTF I'm curious as to your reasoning for this?

Well, Alot of companies sell o2 housing mounted external gates, I guess they all don't know how to build their products, Or what their doing.

I'm so sick of the whole SSautochrome being shit nonsence always posted. First of all, I have owned their old o2 housing, It lasted forever, And still IS. Not one thing wrong with it.

Next off, How many people bought their 2g direct fit agp look like fmic?????? Exactly, About everyone on here with a 2g, So that isn't shit? It's good enough for you to buy because it was proven to work, And is still holding up, But yet everything they sell it shit?

Everyone posting how shitty their parts are, Are people who have HEARD, OR READ or seen pictures, Of someones shit on the internet. You don't even know what you're talking about, And I doubt you have ever even tried everything.

Also, I guess my buddies civic coupe cheapo $800 turbo kit is junk, Because it has been on the car for a very long time, And is still STILL running strong, And getting better and better..... Just bolting it on, He ran a 13.4, But at 110mph.... That's a 12second trap speed for $800. But yeah, It's junk.

I guess you need the name brand logo on all your parts. Goodluck, And waste your money.

Thanks for reading,
Take care.

It's their manifolds that are shit. I've personally seen 3 of them in multiple pieces, and another one that wouldn't even fit because one of the runners was hitting the head. If the same guy that welds the manifolds is welding the O2 housings and intercoolers, then they are shit too. You can do a simple search and find dozens of pictures of their manifolds breaking off at the collector, not just cracking, but breaking into two pieces. SSAC is garbage, it always has been it always will be.

I'm also curious as to your reasoning behind that statement, if you're going to make statements like that, at least take the time to back it up.

you said it.... their manifold's are garbage .........you talked about the manifold 3 diffrent times being crap no where did you talk about seeing or hearing the 02 housing or FMIC kit's falling apart and I can say the same but I have never head of either the FMIC or 02 housing coming apart untill that happens then you will have more room to talk about their other products

Just like (1993eclipseGS) said I have owned their old o2 housing, It lasted forever, And still IS. Not one thing wrong with it.

There's a lot of companies doing the the undivided housing mod too. I guess they all know what they're doing too, just because they're big companies.

You haven't removed the part of the system that is causing the poor boost control, and that is the internal wastegate passage. Sure you can hog it out and make it flow, but then you just killed your turbine flow. Even with the gate closed, you have very turbulent flow because the exhaust can flow not just into the small passage, but into the former WG discharge area in the turbine housing. That's just a lot of swirling turbulent exhaust that you really don't need. The WG belongs in the manifold, not in turbine housing. An O2 mounted WG is basically a glorified internal gate that allows you to hog out the turbine WG passage to a larger than stock internal gate size. Its still an internal gate, just remote mounted.

And again I'll say that their O2 housings are excellent aside from the too small WG discharge, but that can be ported to the correct size.

I thought that too, then the FMIC kit changed my statements toward them. And should also negate statements others make. Or maybe put an asterik next to them.

Also their o2 housings seem to be fine. I have did a research on them here on tuners as I was interested in them, and the owners who own them seem to have no problem with them.

So perhaps garbage then, very questionable now, with their sucessful products, and ex-haters such as myself showing how times have changed.

This is wrong about their fmic. That huge thread of 1st hand testimonials proves it. I expect to read this by someone pissed at having spent 3x the money on a brand kit that is arguably better. Show me an SS fmic kit that blew it's welds. Lord knows enough of us have them now.

I've seen their junk fall apart, that's enough for me to not buy any of their products( I never have and I never will).

Your reasoning seems pretty crazy, if half of their products work and the other half break in half, then it's ok to buy from them. That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. Why would you knowingly support a vendor that is in the business of screwing enthusiasts out of their hard earned money?

They steal the designs of hard working vendors, take money away from the people it should be going to, and you cheap bastards are eating it like candy. You're screwing the rest of the dsm community when you support places like them.
It just doesnt make any sense.

Want me to keep posting links? I could turn this into a full time job.

I have seen IN PERSON their "revised" tubular manifolds for dsms. They are a night and day difference from what they used to be. My only complaint about them is that they flanges need to be planed flat. Other than that, top notch pieces. Thick flanges, thick tubing, and pretty good welds. As for these running on cars, there are two dsm's and two 240's out of Abel that have been running them for over a year with almost no problems (one of the 240's developed a crack near the wastegate flange, but this was easily fixed).

In addition to seeing their newer units, I have seen one of their older pieces. It was a piece of shit. While the welds were about the same, it had thinner flanges and tubing obviously meant for an N/A header. It's kept around for a door prop and as a comparison to show the difference between the two "generations" of exhaust manifolds. My big complaint about SSAutochrome's manifolds is that they do not have a bolt on manifold with an external o2 housing off the collector for 1g's. A 1g can use the 2g manifold, but will either have to get rid of the power steering pump, or modify a 2g pump to fit.

My point in the end, these are not the same manifolds we saw two years ago. These are by far superior, and with PROPER INSTALLATION (ie, supporting the downpipe/exhaust on the block as well as the frame) should last for substantial ammounts of time with little hassle.

Thanks,

You might as well start. I have yet to see a pic of one of their fmics blowing a weld. I could give a shit about their other products as I would never buy them anyway. I would have never bought their fmic if it wasn't for a 50+ page thread proving they are worth the $290 shipped.

Care about the other vendors? What next, you're going to tell me I should buy domestics because I should "buy American" and it's the "patriotic" thing to do? Sorry, but I didn't buy that crap when Lee Iococca was airing tv ads telling us Japanese imports were destroying America and we should buy his unreliable gas-guzzling cars because US manufacturers were too lazy and complacent to actually produce quality products and compete. Apparently the Big Three were entitled to our money and shouldn't have to earn it like everyone else.

I see, I along with millions of other Americans should just collectively and voluntarily begin paying higher prices for goods in order to give handouts to businesses that either need to find a way to compete or get out of the way for those who can. In other words, we should subsidize others for their inability to adapt to change? Sorry, but when you can find a way to supercede market justice with social justice in the American cultural psyche, I'll show you a solution for rising healthcare costs and 40 million ininsured.

Adam Smith's invisible hand is the great equalizer. Market forces will decide the fate of companies like SS just like they do everything else. Anyone who cannot match the prices that the consumer dictates as "fair" must adapt or fail. Slowboy and every other vendor needs to fight for my dollar like everyone else. Perhaps if they can't compete they should just take a page from Lee Iococca's book and reel in some suckers who think it's the patriotic thing to do.

Well said.:thumb: Just to say my peace, I have a 2gnt(w/turbo) that has a xspower t3 on it. It has lasted longer then 2 rebuilt 14b's on my 1g awd. I plan on buying the ssac t4 turbo kit for my 1g early next year. I guess we will just see how it goes.;)

Untill you show us these pictures of FMIC kit's or 02 housing's I see nothing wrong with these part's , Now I have personally seen the EXHAUST manifolds crack in half and thats why I would never buy 1 plain and simple

yeah, if I had those two cars, I would let the turbo'ed n/t sit and collect dust too. I've personally seen their turbo, wastegate, and bov's fail.

you can't argue that they are stealing the ideas of companys who spend millions in research and design. Who wants to support a theft? Not I

First off, not bashing any vendors but all the "research and development" can sometime's be misleading. Now I'm not bashing Magnus and their intake's and SBR with there exhaust manifolds. But some of these vendors are simply buying the exact same things the eBay vendors are and making huge profit marking them up. You guys talk about the AGP "style" FMIC. It's not a "style" it is there FMIC. Had a friend break his core and got an eBay one and the core and piping are the EXACT same. Just like there SRT4 intake pipes they pay $17 for from China, slap an AGP sticker on them and sell them for $159.99. I know there are some reputable vendors out there but some of them are buying the exact same stuff you see on eBay and calling it their own and marking the price way up. Some companies are even paying these "Chinese knockoff" companies to design their products for them.
