my head linner is starting to come off and drup really bad, i was thinking. cause I am starting to redo my interior, to take all that old druppy carpet down and replace it with A stick on sheet or carbonfiber, not real carbon fiber but those stick on sheets for hoods and acceries. The problem is Im not sure how the adhesive would hold up to the heat inside my car (live in chicago were its 100+ in the summer, -0 in the winter) So the inside of my car bakes a little hotter then that(cause I keep it outside)

I heard there's a 3m adhesive i also need to redone my headliner mind starting to come off and the owner before me he painted black but the paint is also coming off when you touch the head liner not good.

3m adheisive is how I got my new headliner to stick..You can get the stuff in the can or the stuff in the spray can..

The pain in the ass part tim is going to be getting the CF look a like stuff to go down under the overhead light assembly..

But other that that it's not that hard to do..A phillips screwdriver is all you should need to get it done, if I can remember correctly..

Yea Im going to redo my interior black and grey, I want to do my carpet in grey but I cant find a light enough fabric paint that I like. The grey I got my my plastic and Vinyl panels is kind of metallic and looks bad on the carpet, I bought a second grey but its to dark and I dont like it. Im going to look some were else for a lighter grey fabric paint. I want to do my pillars and liner in CF. Ill post some before and after pics when I get some done. Im starting my doors probobly sunday.

I redid mine.

1. Remove the headliner and tear off the old material.
2. Get some fabric from an art store or similar.
3. Fit the material over the headliner and outline with a Sharpie, then cut it.
4. Clean the surface as best you can and spray 3M or similar adhesive on both the fabric and the headliner.

One note: be sure to check the can of adhesive you get. Several of them specifically say "not intended for automotive headliner" on the side. Car roofs get mighty hot like you said and a lot of adhesive expands and fails quickly. Just go with the 3M and you'll be good.

For anyone else that wants to do it, here's a tutorial from DSMTalk http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194051

For anyone else that wants to do it, here's a tutorial from DSMTalk Recovering your headliner in a car with a SUNROOF. And an aftermarket one at that. - DSM Forums: Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, and Eagle Talon Forum: DSMtalk.com

Exactly how I did mine too..Almost to the T..The door panals were pretty easy too..

I've seen that tutorial but how different is it from a 2g? My guess is not by much since I also have a sunroof.

Bud92GSX, you say the door panels are just as easy? I was hoping to get an all black interior in my car eventually but the local junk yards are crap and I haven't had any luck finding the panels. I was debating redoing all the panels in black leather but was worried it would be too hard/ not come out very well.

I'm going to end up replacing all the grey leather/vinyl on the panels now with black leather or vinyl, whichever it is haha. I figured it would be a pain in the ass but I plan on breaking the panel down to individual pieces. I'm hoping it'll be easier to do it that way than try pushing the leather in between parts.

I did my headliner on my 2g with sunroof. Its of piece of cake. While you have it down make sure to clean out the drainage tubs on the sides of the sunroof and grease the wheel of the motor if it needs it.

I dont have a sun roof so I dont need to worry about that. They sell spraypaint purposly for vinyl, plastic syntho leather and other car interior applications. Thats what I got, it cost more then regular spray paint but it supposed to hold up better in heat and sun.

Are you talking the inserts or the whole damm door panal..Cause the door panal might be a PITA!!!

I just covered the door panels in my eclipse, literally 3 hrs ago and it wasn't that bad the worst part was cutting out the speaker cover(putting in custom covers) and the part of the door where the door handle is. I used fleece it stretches

The 3m spray adhesive worked really well for me(got them at home depot for about 12.99 a can). I used 2 cans of the strongest one the had. You gotta make sure there's no airbubbles tho. Kind of like window tinting.

Did you just recover the whole thing with fleece..Or did you take off the old vinal, and then lay down the fleece..I was thinking about doing vinal on the doors next time I redo the interior..So if all you did was just 3m it and lay it down, that doesn't sound like that big of a pain..

Im just painting my vinyl:)

And another question. I have never taken of my head liner like in the pic, and I seen another DSM the other day with a carbon fiber roof(real one) some I am guessing the roof you can take off to? And if so does that mean I could go to the junk yard and take the sunroof off that other 1g eclipse and throw that in my car?

They don't make an actual Cf roof..It's an overlay kinda thing..But actual CF..So it doesn't replace the roof it just goes on top of it..

Taking out the headliner isnt that hard..A phillips screwdriver and you should be good to go..You might need a socket I can't remember..But as long as you have those two things you'll get it off just fine..Take off the front, rear, and sunroof molding last. You dont want it to droop on you untill everything else is free from the roof...I took out my A pillars when I did mine..It made it kinda easier..

So I cant throw That sun roof in my car, I dont have a sun roof right now thats what I was trying to say.

My doors don't have the door inserts. Its all once piece aside from the door handle and all that, my doors are all plastic. So i sanded them down with low grit sand paper and then used the 3m headliner spray and molded the fleece to the doors. Ive used other materials but, you have to worry about the glue coming through as well as tearing or stretching the material. I just finished the back 2 pieces in the back seat.

To timF ,if you want a sunroof find some one to custom install one, in theory its not hard to do just time consuming and you gotta know what you doing so either pay someone to do it for you or buy a car with a sun roof .
in Columbia,sc we have a company _ sunroofs of Columbia that does all things with convertible tops and sunroofs including custom installs. you could check if you have a place like that around you.

Its not that big of a deal for the sunroof If it was that easy I would do it but not an issue.

Anyone have pictures/write-up for the actual sunroof material? It seems that the sunroof itself is going to be the tricky part. Thanks in advance

edit**** just realized that this thread was months old...sorry
