does anyone have any info on putting in a new headliner or has done it, i want to put a new headliner in but i can't find anywhere to get it from, please let me know, thanks:dsm:

I replaced my headliner, what info were you looking for?

is there a "How To" on this... I want to do mine too, is it hard to get the materials? and to aply them and have good results... if it's hard I think I'll just take it to a shop...

I have done 3 head liners, they are no problem. The hardest part is getting them out sometimes. Here is break down of it kinda.
1. Materials, you will need new fabric or whatever you may want to put in. Some art and craft stores sell headliner material. Or you can go to a uphlustry (sp) shop where they will have lots of different colors and styes. You will also need a can of spray glue, there is a actucal headliner glue but i'm sure you may be able to use 3m super spray mount 77 or higher. 3m also makes the headliner glue.
2. Remove or losen all trim part holding the headliner in.
On my 1g there was the sun visors, doam light the trim where the automatic seat belts slide, and the part between the windows.
3. Take the headliner out for 1gs and probably 2gs you will have to take it out through the rear hatch.
4. Pull the headliner off.
5. Take a broom or a brush of some kind and sweep off the old glue that is left behind
6. Once the foam headliner is all clean spray on the gluse and also spray the glue on the back of the fabric.
7. To make the part easy use 2 people. Hold up each end and then put the middle on and start from the middle oing out to the ends. Dont press to hard or else the glue will seep throught the fabric.
8. Let dry for a few min.
9. Put back in the way you took out.

Sorry for any typos.
I'll see if I can find my bottle of glue and tell you the exact name for it.

Hope that hels you out some.

i actually bought 2 yards of blue velvet, ripped out the cardboard cieling, and took it inside, sprayed 3m, and let it sit, reinstalled it, looks absolutely awesome.

How bout as far as the visors im doing the headliner black previously grey and i dont want the visors to be grey and headliner black , thanks.

i just ended up spray painting them with cloth paint it came out alright i guess... wish i knew how to re cloth it like the headliner LOL

you have to pop them apart and get the old fabric off. but pay attention to how you're taking it off, because you're going to put the new stuff on the same way.

here... i found this in an old thread:

The visor is a plastic clamshell with the fabric edges pinched inside. It's glued together so you have to pretty much crack it apart with a screwdriver. Just try not to break it too much. You will probably break some of the studs. Use the old cover as a template, cut it out, stretch it over (it's held by little pointed teeth all around the edge), and glue it together.

Just recover it yourself with something ballin like suede. I recovered my headliner and door cards in suede and it really adds a nice touch. The guys above gave good advice so just follow what they said...

The headliner is pretty easy to do. Ive done the headliner and door panels so far. The door panels used to be the crappy gray color so I re covered them with a nicer black vinyl with a red micro velvet insert. The worst part about the panels was the new vinyl because it was considerably thicker than the original stuff. Dont attempt something like that without a heat gun.

edit:thats a pic of the first attempt. I ended up doing another drivers side panel because I wasnt happy with how that one turned out. It was mostly just little details that you cant really see in that pic.

Yeah, new vinyl that was a bit thicker and better quality than what was originally there and some velvet for the inserts. Took me about half a day for both doors.

Ive also done a few headliners. They really dont take much work to re cover. The worst part is scrubbing the old foam stuff off the actual head board so you can get a smooth surface to stick your new material to.

So you made your gray door panels black or were they black already how much did material cost you and how did you get it to stick

1.) I stripped the original gray covering from my door panels and covered them with a black vinyl that was of better quality than the gray stuff due to not being able to find a single car in my area with a black interior.

2.) The total cost for both panels ended up being somewhere in the neighborhood of $50. Velvet is expensive. Without doing the velvet, I think it could be done for around $35.

3.) I used 1 or 2 cans of 3M super 90 spray adhesive(green can), a staple gun with short staples around the edges to hold it down, and a heat gun to help stretch the new material over the various contours of the panel.

If youve never reupholstered these door panels, I suggest you do quite a bit of research and maybe have an extra panel to practice on. The stuff I used is quite thick and hard to form around some bends properly. I think its real purpose is for marine seats of some sort. I could have gotten thinner stuff but I wanted something that was durable enough to hold up to some abuse over the next few years.

PM me if you would like to get more detailed info. If there is enough interest, I believe I have enough material left over to do an extra panel thats sitting underneath my house for the purpose of writing a tech article of some sort. Id rather not hijack a thread that isnt mine.
