New headlight for us, 1GB guys

Problem with my particular case is that I've already got the corners white'd/cleared-out. :p

But definitely, as long as anyone plannin' that mod has some amber, somewhere, they're not too likely to run afoul of even the strictest enforcer.

Cool, I've already got a bottle of that stuff. Did you brush it or use an airbrush for that? And why paint the clear ones instead of using your stock ones?

I just brushed it on and gave them two coats. Dried completely in about 5-10min for each coat. I would have painted the stock ones but when I bought the car it already had the clear corners and SHE had got rid of the stockers unfornutely. Here are some more pics.

Has anyone tried heating these up and separating the lens cover from the housing itself? Do they pull apart just like the stock headlamps?

I am going to be putting in some H4 HIDs and I'd like to remove that little inverted-cone thing over the H4 bulb. Has anyone tried this?

Also, another solution to the stock amber turn signals... paint the 'clear' area whatever color your car is, and leave the orange part orange.

Here's a shot of my HID's in the clear euro style lenses(still waiting for my Audi OEM projectors to come, so i can retrofit them in)

they dont look that blue in person. its just due to the shutter speed i had it set on..
Do you have a 9006 HID kit, or is that an H4 HID?

Also, what do you mean by retrofitting Audi OEM projectors? Are you going to be installing something else in the new Euro housing? Can you post some pictures, links, etc. of whatever you're doing?

I just dropped a bunch on these housings a few months back, and more recently, an H4 HID kit. I don't want it to look shoddy or provide poor light (the reason I bought it is because I can't ever see at night and I want some GOOD headlights), but the recent feedback on these housings and HIDs is daunting my spirits.

the HID kit on my car is 8000k 9006 bulbs... right now there just sitting in the housing as the regular halogen bulbs would be.. this is bad because it scatters the light in every direction it can due to the chrome insides. im getting a set of OEM factory projectors out of an Audi A4 or A6 and ill be screwing them into the insides of my housings along with a few other fabrications to make it look clean and not half assed.. this way it will give my light a field of output in a somewhat straight line with better cut off and less glare to other drivers.. plus it will look much nicer in the daytime... i wound up spenind like$1500 on a digital camera and lenses so it pushed my headlight project back a ways until i pay off my credit card but once i get around to gettin it done, i will have pics along with a complete walk through on what i did..

but tou do know that your 9006 kit will be useless now with the audi projectors, since you need H something bulb to fit in the oem projectors

so i have these new lights with the clear corners now but im having a hard time finding the light bulbs for the corner lights. i thought silverstar made the corner light bulbs for the 1g's too where they look clear in the daytime but amber when on but ive only seen them for 2g's. so my question is does anyone know of a company that makes these corner light bulbs that are only amber color when turned on? If so maybe you can post a link for me. i searched the forum but havent found anything for us 1g owners.

thanks in advance for your help.

**EDIT**

ok nevermind guys i did a google seach and found some made by pilot. here is a link to them if anyone else is interested in them.

why wont the 9006 bulbs fit into an OEM audi Projector?
heres a pic of comparison of the HID bulbs to one another:

is it bc of the "L" shape of the 9006 connector? bc if thats the problem, my bulbs do not have the "L" connector. they're straight.
heres a pic of my HID bulb before i put them in my car

?... any answers?

Don't Bump.:thumbdown

Audi Projectors use a different bulb, a D2S HID Bulb - this is not the same as your 9006 Bulb, and a 9006 Bulb will not work.

To properly swap over Audi projector HIDs, you'd also need the Audi ballasts & wiring harness for the HID bulb setup.

Sorry for the late reply , my 9006 HID's also don't have the L shape like yours, but still it wont fit in the audi projectors. I've tried them on my friend S4 and it didnt even come close to fit.

Anyway if you do the retrofit , do it the right way and you could still sell your 9006 hid kit pretty easily ;)

maybe i will just wind up sellin my 9006 set up and buyin the right kind for the retro fit... but is there any other projector that will fit the 9006 bulbs?

btw, what was the problem with bumpin this thread?? aparently it worked if i got my answer....

I just recently stumbled upon this thread. I been looking for some clear housings for my 92 dsm also.

I currently have stock housings with basic yellow build up and a HID 9006 kit (for stock bulb).

I read the posts and found one guy not using 9006 hid kit in the new housings, but using something else.

My questions are....
Do the new housings use a differnt bulb other than the stock 9006?
basically will my hid 9006 kit transfer over?

Thanks

Here's a shot of my car with the kit and stock dirty housings....

yup , your 9006 HID kit will fit perfectly in the new clear housing, since they use the same tyoe of bulb, wich are 9006 too. so your all set if you buy the healight :thumb:

Hmm... the clear headlights I bought came with H4s for the lows, and H3s for the highs.

Are you sure that you don't mean HB4 and HB3, which are the same as 9005 & 9006? H4 & H3 bulbs aren't compatible with the 1Gb stock harnesses.

just some new information In this months modified mag. the had them in the new products section They are made by X3 Racing they also gave a phone number is 626-934-8001 for those who havent ordered them off ebay maybe you can save some $$$$

my jaw dropped when i saw the first pictures the guy with the blue 1gb posted....

Do you happen to know the sylvania part number for those turn signal lights. I got the wrong ones apparently.

I'd love to look that way :thumb: , but watch out if your local cops are by-the-books on lighting/accessories (and also if you go on road-trips to locals where such enforcement can be a problem). Having no amber running-lights can be a ticket-able offense!

Sure would look slick, though!

Hey ClevSilverEclip: just cut the wires, then buy a set of those "plugs" that crimp on the end of the wire, that way, if a cop pulls you over, just say sorry and plug 'em back in. i do this with my blue washer lights all the time, and i havn't gotten a ticket yet. cheers!

Agreed - switched is DEFINITELY the way to go.

I've actually got one of those LED washer nozzles on the top of my hatch (the twin LEDs up front was not something I was interested in) - even though it's white in output color, from certain angles, it can still look bluish. I put a secondary switch on it right-away, and I haven't been stopped yet.

I got some pics of your car up in the Hangout from the Import Face Off in Donaldsonville.I think the thread is now on page 2, ah hell here is the link http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170722 I think your car was one of the hottest car out there. My two favorites were your 1g and a white/carbon hood NSX. Those lights looked beautiful in person. The best headlight ever on a 1g. :thumb:
