Agreed - switched is DEFINITELY the way to go.
I've actually got one of those LED washer nozzles on the top of my hatch (the twin LEDs up front was not something I was interested in) - even though it's white in output color, from certain angles, it can still look bluish. I put a secondary switch on it right-away, and I haven't been stopped yet.

here's a crazy thought... wire up that washer LED on the rear for a 3rd brake light.
that would work. might even look decent. then it's not on all ther time
