Neglected 95 Eclipse GSX nostalgia build

Cleaning up a 95 eclipse gsx after being neglected for some years.

I've been testing sensors for a few hours now and all of mine check out. The one thing I found that I had to dig pretty deep for was something about the pin dropping in while in neutral for the shifter. Mine was off a pretty big amount so ill have to test this theory, but this is literally the last thing I found. I checked my tcu and nothing looked bad or nasty and the transmission still shifts it would just hunt in lower gears. My pulse generators and solenoids both checked out perfect so I'm hoping this was my cause, I'm being hopeful at this point. I did find spare solenoids but before I drop the pan for the 5th time I'd like to see how this goes.

Update on the trans, it shifts alot better and is no longer sluggish but it still hunts in 2nd and 3rd gear. It's only when it gets warm but it's way better than before. I can live with how it is right now. I will test the solenoids and pulse generators when there warm to make sure there still reading good. Until then I think we are making progress.

I did finally have time to throw another spring in the wastegate and I also swapped out a boost gauge that reads over 30. My glowshift only reads to 30 but I'm hoping to roll past that and push this old school turbo to the limits. I'm so used to 20 pounds now and it used to feel "fast" but now I just want more.

Pretty much maxed out the injectors tonight at 26 pounds on e85. I'm super happy with the power but I feel like it's not enough. My absolute end power level goal is at 400 to 450hp. Until I have a built engine and what not, I'll have to end at that but I couldn't be happier with everything. I'd like to at least max out this turbo since it does still have more in it, which I'm very happy and impressed with. I don't have much to update but it's been fun trying to push this thing.

What AFR are you running 6-7k rpm at 26lbs?

I'd have to look back but I've been having a long term member remote in on my laptop to tune it for me. It's easier and he knows what he's doing. Everything has gone pretty smooth that way but I'd like to eventually someday learn. My injectors are fic 1000s which I'm going to probably be selling here soon to buy some 2150s. I kick myself for not just buying those right away.

If you maxed out 1000cc (I have 1000cc) on e85, without reaching 400hp, then you must be running rich. There is more power in E85 running leaner.

It may also be a combination of my fuel pump too which is a 340 but not rewired. That's my next step but it showed if I remember 11 or 11.5 I beleive. There's alot going on and alot to watch when I'm making a pull, so i didnt quite catch it. We had it at 29 pounds but the injector duty cycle was pretty high so we turned it down to 26 to be safe. I'm on stock lines and all so I don't know if that plays a role or not.

A little bit of an update but not really. I've been absolutely enjoying the car even on the hottest days when it's not raining. If it wasn't for Justin DuBois I'd still be upgrading things. He not only helped me perfect this tune but also taught me alot about ecmlink and what does what. I can not thank him enough for his knowledge and time. The car feels like an absolute animal at 25 pounds and that's where it's going to stay. I don't think I want to push it any further especially since the engine and transmission are stock.

I'm extremely happy where it's at. It gets a new windshield on Monday so no more cracked up dirty thing I can barely see out of. I will say selling the car has crossed my mind a couple of times but from how happy it makes me when I rip it around I honestly don't think I ever could. Putting the work in isn't ever an issue it's the price of things that get me all big eyed. I'm happy with the car nonetheless and maybe one day I can pass it down to my son or daughter.

I've decided to pull the trigger on the kiggly mod. The only thing I'd like to at least function normal is the overdrive button which I'm sure I'll be able to wire up since it shows a toggle switch. I'm trying to avoid any toggle switches and buttons. I'd like everything to appear somewhat stock. The car makes enough power now to hit 100 like nothing but the transmission doesn't like that very much, so that's the reason I'm doing this.

The only thing I'm worried about and have questions on are 1. Will my hoses handle the extra pressure because last weekend one ripped and it was new. 2. Why do you need to use these diodes, like what is the reasoning behind it. 3. Will I still be able to retain my overdrive switch like normal if I wire it up like the write up states. 4. I'm assuming I need to unplug the tcu or can I leave that alone?

I did also retrieve my car last night from getting the windshield replaced and man it's been awhile since I could actually see out of it. They did a great job and I was able to source a brand new stock weather stripping so I had them install that instead of some generic one they did on my talon. My birthday is Friday so I'm trying to avoid diving into anything deep right at the moment so I can enjoy the car all weekend.

I have an extremely huge update on this car.

With how busy I am and how much i need the extra money i have decided to bring the car back to stock. So far this has been a blast of a summer with the car, and before I grenade something that I really can't afford right now, I'd rather be safe. Any funds I can get back from my "go fast" parts will help me tremendously instead of the classic I need to sell my car to pay for this or that. There's alot of things changing in my life definitely for the better but to save myself and the car this is the decision I had to make. The car may never feel the same but we can get back to building power after everything is set up and im in a happy spot.
I do thank everyone for understanding and helping me through this build journey so far. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

Can’t blame you at all! Do what’s best for you and your life.

Just for posterity’s sake though I’ll answer the old post up top.

1) it doesn’t really increase line pressure it just limits the slippage of clutches in between gear changes. So, should be fine. Line pressure is controlled in the valve body.

2) Steve would be better at explaining why the diodes are necessary. I assume it’s voltage regulation or something similar.

3) if you trace the wires for the OD switch on the shifter you can use it in place of the toggle switch. I did it on my auto using the Kiggly mod and it was nice and OEM.

4) unplug the TCU or it’ll throw it into limp mode or it’ll try to shift itself.

Thanks a ton for all the info on that. I still may do that mod or I just swap the solenoid that's causing an issue. It actually shifts pretty good and I'm happy for sure about it. I'm going to miss the power no doubt but the next go around I'll probably switch up some things.

Mind telling me where you sourced 2g windshield weather stripping?

I have some generic stuff in my shopping cart and haven’t bought it yet. If I found oem though that would be cool too.

-Daniel
I found that weather stripping on ebay that I can no longer find. I was just strolling for oem parts and that popped up so I bought it. It's hard to pass up hard to find oem parts.

Well I got some great news! I almost have the tank empty to start converting back to 91, which I'm still going to do but I'm no longer selling any parts off the car. My brother is doing me a solid by buying one of my spare vehicles so for now I'll just tune the car on 91 since I have no idea how long it's going to sit. I'll just lower the boost some and keep everything how it is. I'll see what other things I can sell and Maybe other jobs a guy can do to keep raking in money. I was so close to pulling things out but I'm glad I didn't. I'd like to keep from selling anything on my cars as a last option. I'll also save my e85 tune just in case I want to go back in the future.

Huge milestone for me today. I actually went out and tuned my car on 91 by myself. It feels great but it isn't perfect. I only have so much time with the car these days. Whenever I have a free moment that time usually goes into my other projects. I'm hoping I can find some more free time in the near future to really get it dialed in. Either way I'm super excited and tuning was always a little scary to me. I couldn't have done it without this great community, so I thank everyone for all the knowledge.

So im not sure how this happened. I was ripping around with my buddy and all of a sudden I get zero boost. I was pulling about 25 psi and as soon as I let off the gas and back on that's when I noticed. I pulled over and found this, so I limped it home. I guess I'm going to have to try to figure out what I need to rebuild this Frankenstein. This is the second time something has happened with one of my certain buddies in the car on the same road. Either the road or my friend is cursed. I'm sort of guessing from when I let of the gas maybe my blow off valve didn't open or open all the way? I'm not sure, I'm just happy it didn't blow up.

What is the intake and filter setup you are using? Your comment about "the same road" brought to mind debris or stones getting through the intake.

It's a paved road it was more of a joke with my buddy since the last time we went out the intercooler pipe also blew off. I had to also limp it back to his house. The intake setup I have is an fp that's recirculated to my synapse blow off valve. I've got very minimal shaft play so my buddy is going to help me source a wheel and ill hopefully have it back up and running soon.

So I've decided in order to run the car out until winter, I'll just throw in another turbo I have laying around. I have no idea when the Frankenstein will be rebuilt but it'd be fun to see what my 16g will do in this car. I pulled the turbo last night while getting ripped by mosquitos, so that kind of sucked. I'm just happy I'm getting more free time to work on it.

Today I got the 16g swapped into the car and everything is about as tidy as I want it for temporary purposes. I honestly might just keep it on the car for awhile it's really fun. I also put on an o2 housing that has the wastegate recirculated so everything is pretty quiet, which I don't hate at all. It's currently sitting at 15 pounds untuned currently. I know once I tune it and turn it up a little more it'll be even more fun but I am so happy where it's at right now.

It's going to be a real hot minute until my other build is done so for now I'm going to slap some of the things I was going to use on that car on this car instead. I'd love to stick the black dash in this car because I feel like it makes way more sense. This car deserves the best in my opinion.

Honestly a 16G/Auto/AWD setup was to date one of my all time favorite street car combos. With my hilariously young and idiotic 18 year old brain I had one that ran 8.3's in the 1/8 on two and a half cylinders and me "tuning" it which was laughable to call it a tune. I think a stock map would've made infinitely more power.

If I could get into a cheap enough Auto AWD I would 150% go that route again. 16G, all the supporting mods, Cyclone IM for a 1G, Evo 3 Intake on a 2G, run 21lbs or whatever it would make and enjoy the mid/low 12's street ripper.
