Well the deal went through. Heck yes!

Assuming you are trailering home a new-to-you vs. watching your old one drive away?

Let’s hear the details!

After an 8 hour drive today my brother and I traded an old pickup for a new to us 98 eclipse gs. This isn't just some lame old 98 eclipse gs, someone put the time into this before trading hands with 3 owners within the last year. The guy that built this car actually documented everything that came in a binder with the car. We were told that before he passed he sold the car. It looks like it was sitting in tall grass just like every single one I pick up, unfortunately.

I told my brother today that if this car is rust free and in really good shape I'd think about trading my gsx to him. Well everything checked the boxes except for a nasty dent in the rear quarter panel and the rockers are in very poor shape. I already have another eclipse that I'm doing heavy body repairs to so I didn't really want another.

I did tell my brother that I'd do all the work on it for him since he doesnt know much about them.
It is the exact same year, color, and model he had back in 2009. The interior is like new and exactly the same as mine.

On to the good stuff about it. The engine came built with wiseco pistons and eagle rods. It spun a bearing so the previous owner put bearings in and then found out it had low compression. I don't know how true that is but we will find out in a later date here. It has megasquirt wired in very nicely and everything in the engine bay was tucked. Someone really put the time into this thing. I am very very pleased with how it was all done and I'm ocd so it takes quite a bit to please me. It's currently on e85 with 1200cc injectors and it was supposedly running 600hp which I'm really not sure how true that is either. This is what the guys told us but I did see dyno sheets in the binder so ill have to check them out to confirm.

All in all I don't think it's a bad car. I told my brother once we get it going to just rip it around. We will either have the rust fixed or find a clean doner. We traveled to south dakota for this thing so it wasn't close by any means. We were hoping that is was going to be cleaner that most in Minnesota.

Yeah I was able to peek behind the side skirts and things are pretty ugly. It looks like that from the front to the back. It technically does look like it's in better shape than my rs, but I think once I start poking around it's going to be the same.

The 2 past owners thought it was a 2.4 swap but i don't think it is. I measured my 2.0 block and the one in the car and they are the exact same height. I think someone just happened to slap a 2.4 valve cover on it. Either way it's still a pretty cool build.

From what I've read it's the stroke. I don't know much about the 2.4 except for its taller and has balance shafts. If the car was swapped it'd also have a custom motor mount and oil pan. I've looked into the swap a couple times but the non turbo guys would know way more than I do, that's if I even know anything now. I'm just trying to help my brother out, so maybe ill start learning more as I go who knows.
