My Gst wont start after I changed the oil. I know changing the oil has nothing to do with it, but it's important to explain the problem. I use blocks of wood to get my car up high enough to get under it by driving up on the blocks and steping them up untill I can get under it and block off all the tires and a jack under it as well. I have someone spot me to make sure I dont drive off the other side of the blocks, but no one was able to today so I did it by myself. I was worried I would drive off the other side after I got her two blocks up and killed her three of four times in a short span on time.:coy: So after I finished changing the oil I went to start her up. I turned the key and.. nothing. The starter didn't even click. Its ALWAYS started right up, no problems at all. So I thought its finally time to replace the battery, since it was only two months away from the due date. I hooked it up to the charger, and came back in a few hours, she started right up. I drove it around for an hour, checked for oil leaks, and turned it off. Came back like 30 minutes later and fired it up, it took longer than normal to start, just a few seconds. I was pretty sure it was the battery now. I went into town and stopped at the gas station, turned it off, got some gas, paid, and tried to start her up. It took about two times as long to start as it should have. Now Im almost 99% certain its the old battery, thinking the charge is just wearing down. Then I went to Autozone, got a new battery and installed it there in the parking lot. Went to start her up and same thing as before. No noise at all besides what sounds like the fuel pump.WTF Now Im thinking its the starter. The lights, radio, windows, everything works, but it wont start. I tapped on the starter, checked the connections, and everything else I could think of at the time. Does anyone here have any ideas? The new battery kinda broke the bank, and Im really hoping its something a little bit cheaper to fix/replace. I know it has something to do with me killing it that number of times in that very shot span of time, but I don't understand why it started after I charged the battery, and won't start now with a new one. I had them check the old battery, and it turns out it was good. Any help at all is much appreciated.

I wonder if your ALT is toast with you having an old battery in there (and DONT go to "AUTOCRAP" for an Alternator, hit a NAPA or similar..)

If you have any hint of corrosion on those battery posts, wires or similar, it plain will not start. It need to be all clean and tight connections.

Look for the small wire that runs to the selenoid of the starter for that comes from the key. They love to come off when they want to...since you said there is no clicking down in the starter area....

good luck...DSM

could be alot of things from coroded cables, loose cables, bad starter. I would check the
clutch switch( assuming its still hooked up) to see if its closing. also don't rule out the ignition switch itself(they're good for intermittent probs). if the starter solenoid is not clicking and cables are good and tight, check the relay. if it doesn't click when you try to
start, try tapping it then start. good luck.

Thanks so much for the input! Ill check those things ya'll listed, and recheck the others. I went to work on it in the parking lot where I had left it and it started. It started very slowly, but it started without me messing with it. But it wont start now that it's at my house. Thanks again for the help, if anyone else has any ideas, please chime in too.

So I got to thinking about it after I rechecked stuff and I think its the starter. When the engine warms up, it heating up the starter and the bushing and cr@p are expanding in it causing it to seize up when its hot. So after its had enough time to cool down it can start because the starter isn't binding up. That would explain why it took longer to start each time yesterday, and why it started after sitting overnight, as well as why it even starts at all. But Im not sure, so I guess Im just bouncing ideas around here. It is making noise when you try to start it, I just couldn't hear it from inside the car. Its making a whirling, whine kind of noise. Maybe like it binding enough not to start it?

So I got the starter off and took it to Carquest to have it checked, according to the reading we got, it just started to go out, and was on it's way to not working at all. Thanks to DSM and Kodeblue for the input. But if anyone knows why it went out all of the sudden I would like to know, just cause Im the curious type.

How many miles do you have on your car? I still have origanal starter in my car to my knowlage..Also I have not seen 100k yet.. My girls car has 150k orig starter( again to my knowlage). Sometimes starters go out on their own..

Also you put 10-30 or 15-40 oil right..

Like anything else mechanical, they wear out. Have someone test your Charging system as well, a b ad or undercharging Alt will kill batteries. A bad battery will kill a new ALT also!!
Cheers

She has 69k on her. Yea I use mobil1 10w-30. LOL Why? I havent even thought of that EVO, Ill get someone test the charging system, just incase. I got the new starter in and she fired right up. I didnt drive her around because I need gas. The new starter is kinda loud though... Ill go for a drive after I get gas and let yall know if I still have the hot start problem. Thanks guys
