Car wont turn over, HELP!

alright so,

i been resently working on my car for past 2 months fixing everything for inspection

- New manifold, gasket, studs
- new exhaust housing gasket
- New alt and power steering belts
- new motor mounts
- new oil line from turbo to filter

But i finally was taking it home after working on it at dads and it was running perfectly for a good 2 hours then radio shut off and lights started to dim... finally speedometer and all interior lights and exterior faded then cut off....

Checked my Maf senor, plugs, alternator belt was still runnin..
i have no idea what the hell it is..

so please i need help asap. car sittin on some street away from home

Yha im gunna have to say sounds like your alturnator is busted pal. You can get a new one from autozone or swap a saturn one in.... if you can get a charged battery in there in sure you can limp it home...

i tried jumping the battery and it didnt do jack shit though..

also a 3 months back it did the same thing we took alternator out got it tested and it was fine... idt the alternator could be bad


what about the starter.. sometimes its a slow start up.. not really slow but u no not average

iv been told the same thing can happen if your igninion coil goes... i think its bs, but im just sayin..

dude that sounds similar to what i have going on right now...did it seem like you hit a fuel cut as well? i could only get mine to 4 grand and no more it would start like backfiring...i put a fresh batt in as well and it still wont turn over!

yah exactly it does that 2..
but im not worryed about that

check ## spark plugs.. NGK and gap them and ## backfiring will go away
thats what mine needed back in the day

But now it backfires only when my car is dying..

Check your wire connections on the alternator. My car left me stranded at a burger king and i couldn't figure out why. It turned out to be a loose wire on the alternator.

Here are the some things that could be wrong
Starter could be bad but that wouldn't cause the lights to shut off, blown fuses/relays but the chances of all the fuses and or relays blowing leave me doubtful.
This leaves you with either you having a bad battery, bad ground somewhere, bad alternator but my car starts with out an alt. (my harness is cut up from previous owners and I can't hook up my alt.) you might even have a bad ecu.
Also check for screwed up wiring in the starting circuit.
Please correct me if im wrong so I don't sound like a complete ass.
But for the battery try cleaning the terminals up they may be corroded.

ironicly i work at Burger king

well.. The battery is new.. like 3-4 months new but the car hasnt been running for 2 months .. i mean its been started up a few times here and there but its been being worked on. and the terminals are clean ..

So this led me to going to pep boys and buying a new alternator..

I had to jump the car to get it to move then it would die again
so im assuming the alternator just isnt charging the battery anymore


Lets hope its just an alternator that needs replaced.

check the wiring it might be a loose connector cause i know what its like to assume its a bad part and then once you get the part it was something small

Hey man, ok so heres what i found with my car mainly....i was getting a fuel cut and fuel cuts can happen from voltage drops...also certain things would not work power windows locks power seat....long story short i disconnected my battery with the car running and the car shut off....so i believe this is your case as well....so yes your alternator is shot...give this a little test and see how it goes! well i mean.. takin the battery off while car is runnin is i hear bad for your car but i mean.. hell if u did it and we are like in same boat ill go with what ## sayin


But i did check my connections to my alternator and all are fine..
i just went out and bought a new one.. installin it tomorrow after work i think


im really hoping thats all it needs.. is a new alternator

its bad for a long period of time and only for your alt ### its pushing full bore for however long your batt is disconnected...all your battery is really for is turning your car over and whatnot but without it your alternator never stops working! good luck man let me know how it goes!

=) i could hear the alternator running and the car getting power
havent taken it for a run yet ..

very nice im glad to hear that its running again. i will be installing mine tomorrow..it sucks breaking down and not knowing what the hell just happened.....by the way did you lose any power to anything inside? power windows locks power seat or climate control?

it was just the alternator

wierd i had it rebuilt.. then it died a year later
must of been a shitty job.

How can you hear the alternator running? I mean the alt is always running, maybe not charging, but always running(the pulley rotating).
