Hey guys, im in need of some help (quickly) im going back to school and the past 2 days ive been putting my GST Spyder back together.

Now, before we go further, let me tell you guys whats happening...last summer, one day the car wouldn't turn over, i heard the fuel pump turn on and some stuff clicking and what not when i turned the key....wouldn't turn over....

soooo me and some buddies push started the car and she fired right up! drove her home and parked her.

I put the car away after that, i was going back to school and winter was around the corner, so yesterday and today i spent putting the radiator back in, intake, IC piping, and i relocated the battery to the trunk along with other minor things.

I was hoping to god she would start, i double checked everything, i got in, turned the key, she lurched forward (DOHH left her in gear on accident)...made sure she was in neutral and tried again...SAME THING as last summer, fuel pump is on, everything turns on, but she wont turn over...i was going to push start her but i don't wanna take the chance since my driveway is a hill and i wouldn't be able to push her back up if she didn't start.

Any ideas??

Also, i was replacing some vacuum lines and the nipple below (pointing at it) broke off, how bad is that?

ugh...this is not my week...

sounds like a starter solenoid to me or corroded wires on the starter.
start by taking the red wire off of the starter and cleaning with sand paper the other wire is a push connector, pull it off and look inside.

vacuum lines, a lot of people simply cap them anyway, do some searches

edit: check your wiring on the battery relocation.

I'm now having the same issue with my vehicle. I would like to know if you solved your problem. I have power to my instruments (radio, windows, etc.) but it just won't even crank.

I've had the starter motor tested, replaced the battery and connections. I turn the key, hear sound in back right of the car (fuel pump I assume), but the starter motor doesn't engage.

Strange thing is, after I put the starter motor back in and hooked up the new battery and such, it started right up and I pulled it out and parked in the street in front of my house. The next day, it did the same thing as before.

I've had it push started and drove it around for a bit without any problems whatsoever thinking the battery might be being drained by something, right after I parked and turned it off, when I immediately tried to start it again it wouldn't turn over.

I uninstalled my Viper alarm system thinking it was shorting out the ignition switch. I've checked the fuse in the front box labeled (Ignition SW). I've also unplugged the white connector on the top clutch button disabling the clutch safety switch, all to no avail.

I'm going to uninstall the starter motor again and check it *ugh*. If you have any tips that you found in fixing your problem please post, thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. I did a couple more things..

I'm getting voltage through that little black wire to the starter when I turn the key, doesn't that mean my starter relay is working properly? For the past month or so it has seemed like it has trouble starting, that's why i thought it was the starter motor going bad.. It was just.. slow. It would turn over and I'd let go of the ignition, then it would die and then start the second time I tried. Now all of a sudden it just wont even crank.

I tested the black yellow striped wire that connects to the starter motor by connecting my red multimeter plug to it, and grounding it. When I turn the key, I get a reading so I know my ignition system is working, and I'm pretty sure my battery is good because it's brand new, and I drove it around the other day after a push start. Even while jumping the car with cables and another vehicle, the ignition wont make it crank.

I swore it should have been a bad ground wire somewhere. It just doesn't make sense to me how it started right after I had the starter tested and got a new battery, then after 48hrs its back to dead.

I'm going to keep working on it, thanks so much for any advice.

So I'm not a mechanic, I happen to be a computer technician. So let me tell you, I've got a lot to learn about being a DSM owner. I would've never thought to tap that little motor with a wrench to get it started... Such a cartoon-ish thing to do - and it turned out to be what got my starter motor running again. At least, I learned a lot about my car in the past 4 days.. Many thanks to the 4-5 posts all over the forums that say to hit it with a wrench..

I had directly tested the small black wire to the starter while turning the key to make sure it wasn't a relay or switch. I also went so far as to get a 3" threaded 3/8 hex bolt and put it all the way thru one sideof the starter motor and connected the ground wire directly to the motor's housing with a bolt behind it.

It was such a hassle, I gladly hit that thing with a wrench after it didn't do anything, and up it spun. I assume it will need to be replaced. Does anyone agree?

I had the same problem, had the starter tested. The guys at Autozone thought I was nuts when the test came back positive and I still bought the starter, I got the last laugh because the solenoid was bad and the new starter fixed my problems.

Im not aware if you can actually purchase a solonoid independently? In older less modern contraptions we called cars, used to have a seperate starter solonoid, generally mounted on a fenderwell, for eaze of replacement and Jumping/diagnosing if need-be. However, nowaday's it is comonplace for the solonoid to be an intergal part of the Starter assembly, so the answer is NO you cannot just purchase an over the counter solonoid. The EVAP purge solonoid vaccuum unit that the OP posted a pic of, is what the other person commented on in occordance to not having or having a MIL light emitting on the dash.
Cheers.

you can get the solenoid special order from Oreillys I believe it cost 90% of what their reman starter costs though.

So, the answer is YES and NO! Yes it's available, Yes you musta bumped your head to pay that much and yet still do the leg work and teardown assembly? SO just say NO! Buy a damn Starter already...:ohdamn:
