So after pulling my head to see that I have two bent intake valves I also noticed that my block is o-ringed. The guy I bought it off of used a mls with copper spray and I never had any head gasket issues. So my quesiton is can I just clean up the block and not have to replace or do anything to the copper o-rings and also I plan on using a mitsu mls gasket but should I use a light coat of copper spray or not? The head is going to be resurfaced but I have read that some people say not to use copper spray and others say to use a light coating. I asked my local machine shop when I dropped the head off there and I still didn't really get a clean cut answer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would treat the copper wire the same as the gasket as if the head comes off, you replace it.

You really shouldn't use the spray with the head gasket. It's going to fill is little crevices yes, but it also prevents the top and bottom layer to "move" when they need to due to being glued down. Everyone on here will have a split answer on it but replace with new gasket and o rings for sure.

I will agree with the others above, change the O rings and HG

also , how is the shop going to resurface the head?
Do NOT let them belt surface your head!!

since you are using a MLS gasket, the surface finish is very important!!

also since you have the head off you may want to do this oil mod....

with bent valves, this will be what your looking to have done to your head...

You wont need to resurface anything with an o ringed block. Get steel wire for the block and use a composite gasket.

I read on another thread that you don't want steel o-rings with a steel HD... Will a composite HD hold up to the power I plan on running? There are so many people saying the exact opposite things as everyone else!

Listen to BogusSVO as he knows what he is talking about and you can trust his information. An OEM composite HG can hold up to 30ish psi using L19 headstuds.

There are copper HG that you can buy that have built in o rings. I wouldn't run it however as they seem to have bad reviews. Why couldn't you use an o ring with a MLS HG?

Since your getting mixed reviews on here it might help to ask a shop like magnus, busher, fp etc. since they would know better than most on here because of their volume of work etc. thats what I would do at least.
But Im also curious about HG's because I have an regular Felpro HG, with ARP studs and was wondering if it will hold up to a big16g, I plan on running 15 psi daily.

^^^^^ X2 I would say call the "Big Boys" of the 4g63 world and see what they say... I speak from a general background in automotive machine work, I do a fair amount with the local DSM guys in my part of the world.

The way I was trained, when you pull the head, replace the gasket, and the Orings... but like some say you can re-use a MLS HG... some will say you can reuse orings.. But it will take a trained and experanced eye to be able to tell...

so keep this in mind... when in doubt.. replace it

I appreciate the help. The next thing I was gong to do is either call AMS, Stictly or where the previous owner got the engine built. I looked at the o-rings the other day and they do look pretty flattened out... I search and tried to find some leads on how to replace them but haven't really gotten anything useful.
