I was looking on Slowboyracing's site in the Engine section and saw a set of rods called
(scat) wondering if anyone out there is using these rods or seen any number's on them any help if is great thanks
Scat Rods
Scat rods are a 600+ HP rod choice. Comparible with our Eagle rods, the scats are an "H" beam rod, with an extra oiling provision to allow better oil flow. Comes with ARP hardware. - 6 bolt only
$319.00 (limited time special)

I've seen those as well... but I have never heard from anybody that runs them. IMO I would just get some eagles on ebay, lots of people get them on ebay. I ordered mine from nolimit when they were on sale for $330 shipped. You should get in touch with them and see if they are still selling them for that price. Eagle rods are a beautiful piece. Best bang for the buck if you ask me.

Thanks,

I'm not using them nor do I know anybody that does use SCAT DSM rods. But I do know people who use there rods and costum cranks in other cars. They make very good products and I doubt you will have have any problems with them. If they made them for a 2g 4G64 I would buy some.

I'm new to the DSM scene but I've been building V8 race motors for over 20 years.

SCAT are IMO a 1/2 notch ABOVE Eagles, they are of equal quality material but the finish machining of the SCATS have been consistently better. FWIW, I won't run an Eagle without checking the big and Small end diameters, I've seen a bunch that needed re-sizing. I would not advise just slapping a crank kit together with Eagles without verifying the rods.

The BEST, most meticulously machined rods out there are Childs and Albert, Bill Miller or Oliver, but they're also the most expensive. Crower and Manley make very good rods as well.

I'm really amazed how these rod companies are ripping-off the import crowd; Why do 4 import rods cost as much as a set of 8 domestic rods? I just bought a set of 6.535" Big Block Chevy rods for $349.

That's not right IMO

Not trying to hijack the topic or anything, but i agree, its like buying kids levis for the same price as mine, just aint right.

Eagle tells me,

"we sell 10 sets of v8 rods for every one set of import rods and thats the reason for the price difference"

Sucks for us.

Same old “volume hide all the sins” at its best.
They shouldn’t be the same money as a set of eight bigger ones. It’s not like they have to redesign them every time they make one set.
It’s like one needs to charge less for a valve job on a 16V Honda or a Toyota just because there are assholes out there giving shit away because they do a lot of them when in fact the only way to cut costs is to “cut corners” or do a “very regular” valve job. They are god damn 16V heads and the tooling needed is relatively the same price as it is for any other 16V head and it wears out faster because it is being used more! So why is it cheaper? Because it is “done cheaper”.
Manufacturers rip you off until they can and then they knock the price closer to where it should be when the time comes and that has nothing to do with the volume of their sales. Take a look at Fidanza flywheels as an example.
All this volume bull shit ####ed up the market and very few are trying to make shit better: almost all look for making it cheaper not necessarily better and the “vendors” are playing their game.
Mitch.
