I know there are a lot of threads on the matter but, different setups. I am looking to quiet down my exhaust as much as possible without sacrificing power. I have gotten a couple tickets in the last month and can't afford to get another. I am running a megan o2 housing, megan dp, and 3" all the way to a megan muffler. I need to quiet this down ASAP!!!!. I have seen the ATS' and wanted to know if they worked. Thanks in advanced.

I'd throw a 3" cherry bomb or other type of resonator type muffler. It should quiet it down some. And they are pretty cheap.

My car came with 3 inch megan all the way to the back. Fortunately it also came with a ATS. It works. It is very quiet at idle and crusing. The downside is it is restictive. So there's backpressure on your system while you're part throttle and don't have enough pressure to open the ATS. At WOT the backpressure is enough to keep it open, still the backpressure is there just not a noticeable at WOT. YMMV.

the little silencer for the tip makes it sound ricer I think. I prefer to put resonators somewhere in the exhaust system to keep a decent tone but quiet it down.

I actually modified mt ATS to open sooner by taking the pre tension off the spring.

I went as far as the spring barely holding itself in the pipe, but dont want anymore cause i was afraid it would rattle.

Is it worth the $200 price, not sure...personally I would just go with a big muffler like WS and add some resoators. Also reducing tip size to something reasonable makes a difference. No need for a 6 inch tip when the rest of your system is < 3inch.

Additional glasspacks or resonators can cause turbulence in the exhaust, and rob power.

What I used is an old throttle plate from some junk throttle body I had laying around, a vacuum advance from an even older distributor I had laying around, an air shock hose kit, and a little one way vacuum valve.
My muffler has two outlets. What I found, was that the sound was significantly quieter when one of those tailpipes was blocked. I simply drilled holes in the top and bottom of one of the one tailpipe, and welded nuts over the holes to reinforce them. Then I put the throttle shaft through the holes/nuts, and installed the throttle plate in the pipe. I mounted the vacuum advance on top of the muffler and connected it to the throttle shaft so that the spring tension holds the throttle plate open. I ran the hose to one of the unused vacuum ports on my throttle body (one that has vacuum with the throttle closed), and put the one way valve inline by the engine, and the air shock fill port, in the passenger compartment. I removed the valve from the fill port, and drilled a small hole in the cap to work like the vent hole in a Hallman MBC.

When I'm idling, or cruising under vacuum, the plate is pulled shut by vacuum, When I go full throttle atmospheric pressure enters the vacuum advance canister, and allows the throttle blade in the pipe to open. The one way valve protects the vacuum advance from 30psi of boost, while the orifice I drilled in the cap, controls how fast the valve snaps open. With no hole the valve would get stuck closed, the bigger the hole, the more often the valve will be open. If you're at the track, or just want extra noise, you can unscrew the cap inside the passenger compartment, and the exhaust stays wide open.

Hose connected to TB, with one way valve allowing air to flow into the engine.

The business end, the valve itself. Been it there for a year, and no worse for wear.

Damn... That's one hell of a contraption there. I really have to give you serious props for that one man! :thumb: :D Got any close-up pics of the throttle plate in the muffler?

My internet just became slow as hell; My phone is refusing to send the video as an email to photobucket, and both computers are taking forever to even load a page. You'll hear it in 23 days anyway, and I really don't think my phone picked up the low frequencies at all.

I suppose this means I should go fix some cars now.

LOL Good enough man. I'll see you in Norwalk!

I have the exact same setup but for a 1g.And honestly it's not loud enough.

The cops around here arent realy that big of dicks. You should hear my girls avenger that the muffler fell of of.That thing is frickin loud, and we have never gotten pulled over.

Post a video and lets see how olud the car is.

I got it working. At 41 seconds I open the valve, and at about one minute I close it again. You can hear my cold engine slapping a little too. :coy:

It doesn't sound like a whole lot in the video, but at cruising speeds the difference is incredible. That huge droning noise is virtually eliminated.
